Aalsmeer is an amazing township in its own right, with a complicated road system. 58,000 sqm of cold room and a massive number of trolleys! Most impressively, a conveyor belt transports flowers on trolleys 15km to another town. Don't be surprised if those flowers you got for Mother's Day have journeyed from here. 😉

Millions of visitors head to Amsterdam for the festival of tulips in April every year. Keukenhof Gardens is where you will observe the incredible 7 million spring flowering bulbs. The gardens only open for 8 weeks in a year! These incredible coloured tulips happened because of the hybrid experiments started on tulip bulbs 400 years ago!

However, if you miss the 8 week time frame, you should still head to Amsterdam for a unique tulip & flower auction. Do you know over 50% of the world's retail flowers and plants are sold through 4 auctions in Holland? Aalsmeer being the biggest. It's mind boggling how the half century old trade has evolved. The pictures and video below will tell you more.

So, although missing the real flowers is a shame, going to the Aalsmeer auction is definitely an education.

In 2011, Heba first got in touch for her solo diving trip to Sipadan as a customer. Then since, she has become a great friend to the BFC family, joining us in various activities. We are thrilled she found her Mr. Right and stepped in to the next stage in life. :)

We have arranged an extraordinary honeymoon for the lovely couple in Bali, involving diving with manta rays, climbing the active volcano of Mt. It's hard to believe this year, 2013, will be over very soon. As we look back at the year, we are reminded of so many wonderful events and people we have had the opportunity to meet.

We, at BFC - The World Beyond has begun the year with comprehensive planning for our Edu Tourism products. We then made a trip down to Masirah & Salalah for a quick recce in summer, we loved it and think it's the perfect destination for student trip from the UAE.

During Ramadan, we took reporters from 3 Arabic publications (Dubai, Abu Dhabi & Jeddah, respectively) to Malaysia for a familiarisation trip. After the official visits, we provided a change of scenery at Sabah for them to have a glimpse of this nature paradise.

As fall approached, we organised annual corporate dive event for Gasco. We went to Vietnam and was in awe of this wonderfully diverse destination.

October brought another month of challenges. We explored Tanzania by trekking the tallest free standing mountain in the world - Kilimanjaro, saw the migration on the savannah of Serengeti / Ngorongo and totally fell in love with Zanzibar!

Between the busy travelling months, we organised a corporate golf event in conjunction with the National Day of Malaysia, in Dubai.

In November, we were asked by the Singapore Tourism Board to lead a familiarisation trip for Taaleem Group of Schools to visit Singapore.

As we write this, we are preparing and getting organised for more exciting events and travels in 2014. We wish all of you and your families a wonderful Christmas filled with joy, families and friends!

Intrigued by Nancy Papathanasopoulou, our expert turtle conservationist's description of her turtle project on Masirah Island, we at The World Beyond The Classroom decided to offer this amazing destination to schools and families alike.

In order to set up the trips, we needed to check out the island and as it was scorching hot in the UAE in July, with daily temperatures in the high 40’s C during the day and low 40’s C after sunset, it wasn't too difficult for us to decide to make a recce trip down to the island.

This spectacular place 15km off the Oman mainland has a lovely yearly average temperature of 24C.

We are currently working with 2 schools to develop unique conservation trips to Masirah Island Oman.

One of the great pleasures of Masirah Island is the wildlife. Four species of sea turtle, the Loggerhead, Green, Hawksbill and Olive Ridley nest here. They all nest at different times, which mean that no matter when you visit the island you should be able to spot some turtles nesting.

The rarest of the turtles on Masirah Island are the Olive Ridley turtles, which nest primarily between February and April.

In unique collaboration with local environmental experts, these trips offer an especially amazing experience for schools and families alike.
