For those guests staying with us for a little longer, we highly recommend a day trip to Antigua’s sister island Barbuda. Located just under 30 miles north of Antigua you can fly there with CalvinAir Helicopters on a day charter or take a return flight with SVG airlines. Or alternatively if the weather is favourable you can go by boat either on the Barbuda Express Ltd ferry or with Barefoot Antigua on a shared or private charter.

Once there be sure not to miss the Frigate Bird Sanctuary especially during mating season which runs from September until April which is when you’ll see the male birds inflate their red throat pouches to attract a female.

Another stunning sight is the pink sand beaches, which is not actually sand but tiny pink shells deposited by the waves.

The two most popular lunch spots tend to be the beachfront Uncle Roddy’s or Nobu (both are an option if travelling on Barefoot’s shared charter).

Post lunch, there’s time for a quick dip before your return transport back to Antigua. Alternatively if you fancy a few days peace and solitude, you can always bolt on a few days stay at Barbuda Cottages

Great to see Antigua make the top 10 Caribbean islands. We’ve stayed a few times at Antigua Yacht Club, which is perfect for an affordable one or two night bolt on to a stay at Villa Antigua

Who doesn't love the idea of sitting under a palm tree on a Caribbean beach, enjoying the tropical warmth, turquoise sea and a hit-the-spot rum punch? But it can be hard to decide which to go to.

Great time at Loose Cannon this week. With a wide range of foods to suit all tastes from salads, tapas, pizzas and burgers it’s easy to lose a few hours here. With a DJ and saxophonist most days and plenty of loungers (extra charge) it’s a great place to have a beach day.

Whilst in English Harbour, we finally after many years managed to make it to Colibri for dinner and it was definitely worth the wait. This French Creole restaurant has a beautiful garden area as well as inside tables in a charming cottage for dining as well as a garden lounge area for drinks. The owner Didier was a fantastic host, checking in on all the tables and making sure everyone was happy. I had Tuna Tartare with pineapple salsa and Arnie had Sous-Vide Pork with Colombo sauce and sweet potato and pumpkin mash with grilled plantain and both dishes were delicious. Although not the cheapest option in the area, it was worth it and we won’t be leaving it so long until our return visit.

Our annual festive trip to Nelson’s Dockyard came just after the end of the of the Antigua Charter Yacht Show which attracts some of the largest super yachts in the world. It’s always great to see the boats in historic English Harbour and this trip was no different. But it’s the architecture and history that always fascinate’s me as the only continuously working dockyard in the world from the Georgian era. Named after Admiral Nelson who lived there from 1784 - 1787 after he arrived on HMS Boreas, there are some interesting buildings and the museum which gives a full history of the site. Having visited numerous times now one of our favourite spots is a the garden of Admiral’s Inn where not only can you relax with harbour views but also take in the stunning house which was built using English bricks that were bought over as ship’s ballast as well as the pillars that remain from a previous sail loft and boat house and which also lend their name to the hotel’s restaurant.

Just a 5 minute drive down the road from Villa Antigua is Wild Tamarind restaurant. Set on a gorgeous beach with its own pool it is a fab spot for lunch and a dip (or sundowner tapas which is next on our list to try). We visited last trip but there has been a change in Chef since then, but we had a great lunch of Chicken Caesar Salad and Pulled Pork Roti. Definitely one we will be recommending to our guests to try.

I never tire of waking up to this view in our bedroom. And an added bonus is the cooling sea breeze which on hot nights like last night, means we don’t need to use our AC. We still have availability in March and April for anyone wanting to escape the ❄️ and the ⛈️. DM for more details.

For our more adventurous guests why not consider zip lining through the rainforest on Fig Tree Drive? Gorgeous drive to get there (approx 30 minutes from Villa Antigua). And when you’re finished why not reward yourself with a treat at the fabulous Antigua Vintage Tea House just round the corner

The Hut Little Jumby is officially open! And what an opening party it was. The bubbles, rose and rum was flowing, the food was amazing and the entertainment top class. Situated in the north of the island, approx 40 minute drive or taxi from Villa Antigua where you can pick up their ferry to take you over from the mainland. And if you want to make a day of it there are cabanas and beach huts to rent. Make sure you add it to your list of dining places when staying with us

Discovered this little gem today - WOW 🤩 from the fabulous welcome from Colin the owner and his amazing team, to the gorgeous setting, great music and delicious food. The Snapper with fried plantain and veg was delicious and so reasonably priced. And just a 20 minute drive from Villa Antigua. We can’t wait to return for their Sunday Seafood Spectacular 🐟🐡🍤🦞🦀

It’s going to be an exciting season on the foodie scene in Antigua with new openings and re-openings in new locations. Having loved the previous incarnation, we can’t wait for Alex and the team to reopen on the west coast.
