Quest Experiences hosted a treasure hunt for the contestants, as well as the current reigning winners, for this year’s Prince and Princess pageant. With clues in hand, they searched across the length of Sandy Ground for historic as well as scenic locations. This exercise was targeted to focus on team building while educating the generation to come about our history and culture. The village of Sandy Ground was seen to be a good location to execute this on the basis that it is enriched with cultural diversity.

Since launching Quest Experiences in 2020, at the height of COVID, there have been many instances where we have been proven to be on the right track in solving problems faced by hospitality professionals, tourists and locals within our tourism product. Recently, I was chosen as a panellist for the Virtuoso Travel Immersion Webinar for Anguilla by the Anguilla Tourist Board, along with their CMO Kimberly King and two other tourism professionals, Logan Miller of Malliouhana and Shellya Rogers-Webster of Lagoon Group.

In preparing to make my presentation to travel agents from around the world, I took the opportunity to truly reflect on where we came from and the assumptions that propelled us to where we are today. These assumptions were:

1. Anguilla is experiencing cultural erasure due to acculturation
2. Locals are interested in learning about and preserving our cultural practices and historic spaces
3. The sustainability of our tourism product depends on a symbiotic relationship between culture and tourism
4. Today's traveller is primarily interested in unique immersive cultural experiences.

The closure of our tourism industry during COVID was the perfect opportunity to test our first two assumptions. This was tested when we promoted a Salt Picking Experience via social media in July 2020 and welcomed 100 paying locals and residents - our borders had been shut since March 2020 up until that point. Through this, we learned that locals were interested in learning about and preserving our culture and would willingly pay for that.

We then went on to test our third and fourth assumptions. Our people are an embodiment of our culture, therefore, when we say that Anguilla has a 70% return rate, it was the beaches, food and resorts that attracted people to visit but, it was the people - i.e. our culture - that made them want to return over and over again. Before the introduction of Quest, it was challenging to contact persons already providing these kinds of experiences. We wanted to bridge the gap between two parties - those who want to learn about our culture and those who know about our culture. As such, we leveraged the use of technology and our marketing skills from What We Do In Anguilla to create our online booking system and dubbed it "Your hub for experiencing Anguilla" - a repository of unique experiences with all relevant information needed to decide to book with the capability of booking online via wwdia.com/quest. In doing so, our hosts could focus more on doing what they know and love to do and our guests could plan their entire trip ahead of time and maximise their budget and time while on the island.

We have worked with global tourism agents, all major accommodations in Anguilla, the Anguilla Tourist Board and DMCs to curate and host their guests to experiences that have established Anguilla as a destination of distinction. Quest has also been nominated and received prestigious local and regional awards and acclaim.

Our newest experiences to be introduced to Anguilla's tourism product include:
- Mango Garden Experience
- Cycling Trail Ride
- Johnny Cake Making
- Kite Making
- Off-road Guided Wrangler Experience
- Salt Picking
- The Valley Capital Walking Tour
- Moko Jumbie Stilt Walking
- + more to come

Have you ever been on a Quest? What new experiences should we introduce?

Learn the art of making this humble, yet mouthwatering, Caribbean staple. You’ll find Johnny Cakes served all around the island stuffed with sweet and savory fillings or just dripping with butter.

After mixing them up and rolling them out, you’ll bake your treats in an outdoor community oven. Then it’s time to taste!

This is a family-friendly event your loved ones will cherish forever. Plus you can share the recipe and show off your technique when you get home.

Thank you canada.com for sharing your experience. The hike to Goat Cave is a beautiful and exciting one, ending with a jump into a natural miniature and enclosed pool.

“Our goal is to reach the jumping off point into the cave’s alluring plunge pool. Guide Jahdo of AXA Life Hike via Quest Experiences advises us to jump in with our shoes on for a safer climb out. The decision to swim fully clothed is made by the sea, drenching me with a huge wave just before I could change.”
