It is impossible to immerse oneself in Armenian culture and not try Armenian national dishes. Armenian national cuisine is as ancient as the history of Armenia.
One of the most popular Armenian dishes is the famous “Tolma” or “Dolma”. It is made with cabbage leaves, or grape leaves, rice, minced meat and other species.
Tourists never leave Armenia without tasting famous Armenian barbecue or khorovats as locals call it. It is made with pork, lamb, beef or chicken in the addition of different species and served with traditional Armenian “Lavash”.
Fish dishes are also very popular in Armenia. Different types of fish are bred in Lake Sevan, but the most delicious is a trout, which is called ishkhan – “a royal fish”.
Do you have a sweet tooth? Armenian cuisine has something special for you too. Gata is a multi-layered cake, each layer of which is saturated with melted butter and sugar.
Dried fruits are another feature of cuisine. They are an inseparable part of every Armenian festive table.

Jermuk is a leading Armenian spa city, which annually hosts not only a huge number of tourists but also a myriad of people from all over the world who go there for health and treatment purposes.
The symbol of the town is a deer 🦌 This symbol is not accidental – there is an interesting legend associated with it. A long time ago in the forests of Jermuk, there were different wild animals, and people often went hunting in the woods for prey. One day a hunter wounded a deer with an arrow, and the animal, gathering the last strength, rushed to flee. The hunter followed the deer and suddenly saw him jumping into the lake, filled with mineral water.
A moment later, the deer emerged from the water and there was not a trace of the wound on it. The amazed hunter returned to the village and told everyone about the miraculous properties of Jermuk water. The rumor about its healing properties spread over many cities and villages and the deer became the symbol of Jermuk.

Armenian bread lavash is an integral part of Armenian cuisine and culture 🫓 Lavash for Armenians has a sacred meaning and symbolizes well-being, luck, abundance, prosperity.
Bread is an ancient and enduring symbol of Armenian heritage, as is tonir (tandoor, oven-roaster) where lavash is traditionally baked. In the Areni cave (where the oldest winery in the world was also found), a tonir dating from the 6th BC. century was discovered.

Have you ever been to Armenia’s Switzerland?
Dilijan is a resort town with mild climate, fresh air in the northeast of Yerevan. It is famous for its amazing surroundings, called the "Armenian Switzerland" by the locals, due to the densely forested valleys and mountains with alpine meadows around. It is an excellent center for walking.
Cooler, greener and more chilled than the rest of the country, Dilijan has long been a retreat for people wanting to get back to nature. Did you know that Armenia is home to one of the oldest winery? 🍷
The Areni winery is a 6100-year-old winery that was discovered in 2007 in the village of Areni.
The winery has welcomed some 30,000 curious (and thirsty!) visitors every year since 2012.
A tour of the factory includes a walk through the cellar where wine is aged in massive oak casks, followed by a tasting of the winery’s selection of traditional and fruit wines. In an upstairs dining area, guests can order coffee or tea and watch a short video about the Armenian winemaking tradition and the history of the company.

Khndzoresk Bridge is one of the most interesting attractions in Syunik province. The 160-meter long bridge weighting 14 tons connects the two banks of the village, the so-called Old and New Khndzoresk.
Old Khndzoresk is famous as a cave settlement, where the village is located on both slopes of the mountain and inhabitant have used natural and artificial caves on those slopes as dwellings.
The bridge is fun to walk and also nice to see it with background scenery from distance.

Мост Хндзореск- одна из самых интересных достопримечательностей Сюникской области. Мост длиной 160 метров и весом 14 тонн соединяет два берега села, так называемый Старый и Новый Хндзореск.
Старый Хндзореск известен как пещерное поселение, где деревня расположена на обоих склонах горы, и жители использовали естественные и искусственные пещеры на этих склонах в качестве жилищ.
По мосту интересно гулять, а также приятно видеть его на фоне пейзажа издалека.

Did you know the Armenians bless grape before the season starts?
On the Feast of the Assumption of St. Mary, the Ceremony of the Blessing of the Grapes is conducted, and the harvest for the entire year is blessed on that day.
The Armenian priests say “Blessing the grape we also bless the harvest and the goods of the whole country”. That’s why grape became the most important part of the ceremony. It’s a tradition for Armenians not to eat grape as long as it’s not blessed.
