Flamingos certainly enjoy their time at Goto Lake. Their beautiful bright pink color signifies that there is plenty of good eats! Watch the two birds at the end, seems clear that they preferred their alone time.🦩 The yellow stone is a reminder to stay in your vehicle, stay out of the pond and do not approach. Always watch these precious creatures in their natural habitat from a distance.

Locally in Papiamentu, we call this bird Lora. This is just one of the many birds we may see when touring the island together. About 1200 of these beautiful Yellow-shouldered Parrot (Amazona Barbadensis), call Bonaire home. This Lora is sitting in a Neem tree.

Yesterday afternoon, the wind reversed and was coming from the west. The salt ponds were so still, which in turn created pristine and picturesque reflections of the salt piles. The sunset was beautiful!

Nice to see work getting done today to restore our historic slave hut after erosion has taken its toll on the structure originally built circa 1850. ⭐️ The power of the ocean is remarkable! It is also a good reminder for us not to move or remove anything from the Bonaire Island protected coastline, as the coral ground-cover, rocks, rubble and plant and mangrove roots are also essential place holders working to keep the sand and soil intact; our shells are recycled homes for our hermit crab population. Best to take only photos.

Our beautiful flamingos 🦩 seek refuge and nourishment in our island’s shallow ponds (saliñas). The brackish water offers both food and sanctuary for Bonaire’s protected species. 🦩 The island’s saliñas and surrounding areas are natural, native habitats where animals feel safe and comfortable. These areas are off-limits to humans and people are asked not to approach the wildlife.
