La Biela
Sitting in front of the Recoleta cemetary La Biela is the most traditional café in the neighborhood and one of LOLs favorite places to visit while touring the area.
Founded in mid 19th century its original Spanish owner named it “La Veredita” and the El Aero due to its popularity among the nearby pilot association led by Jorge Newberry.
La Biela (which means connecting rod) acquired its current name in 1950 when it became a meeting place for the races of automobile champions and for lovers of that sport. Among them, "Chueco" Juan Manuel Fangio, who was the five-time or five-time world champion in Formula 1 (until after his death, almost half a century later, he was surpassed by Michael Schumacher), and all the lovers of this sport.
In 1999, Café La Biela was declared a Place of Cultural Interest in the City of Buenos Aires. Juan Manuel Fangio, José Froilán González, Juan Gálvez, Emerson Fittipaldi, Jackie Stewart, Robert Duvall, Francis Ford Coppola, Jorge Luis Borges, Adolfo Bioy Casares, Ernesto Sabato, Pablo Plavnick, Daniel Sonzini and Mina Mazzini among others. Armando Catalano, Guy Williams, the actor of the popular television series "El Zorro" -, while he lived (until his death) in Buenos Aires, was also among the regular visitors to La Biela
