January 28, 2023, A few of us, Nora, Grant, Sharon, decided to see if we can help our fellow band members in filling out their claim forms, in doing so, we realized, that most of the community members might now qualify, and two years , was not the true number of years, that we've had problems with drinking water, we started discussing possibility of filing our own claim, and sue for more years.
Councillor Leroy Thompson, then stated that Chief and Council had submitted a Band Council Resolution for the water settlement, but that they would rescind it the next day.
Feb.22,2023, We, in a brief discussion, with band members. received the go ahead to proceed with filing a suit for our water issues, by the majority, that were present. We, by Councillor Leroy, were again informed, that this Band Council Resolution, would be rescinded, and that Chief Hector Shorting, and Councillors: Albert Shorting, Ray Sumner, Darrell (Darryl) Shorting, and Leroy Thompson, would support this committee, if we were to proceed, by providing the retainer fees, to a lawyer. We were also advised that, if Chief and council had received this money, that they would send it back, but in speaking with the lawyer, were advised to hold on the cheque, and put it a into trust fund.
Have we received this cheque yet? Lake St. Martin, and Fairford, is rumoured to have gotten theirs
Meeting of February 26,2023, we got the go ahead from more band members present to pursue a suit, from this band, for drinking water issues, that have been, long term boil water advisories, for individual wells in the Little Saskatchewan Indian Reserve # 48A.
Councillor Leroy Thompson, admitted that this resolution, had not been rescinded, as of yet, and again, said that it would be done, the next day.
We are all well aware of long standing issues with, not only safe drinking water, but other use of our water source.
We, need to know if this Band Council Resolution, has been rescinded that was sent accepting the water settlement,
We, need a copy of the BCR, rescinding the previous BCR, as soon as possible, the lawyer, will need that BCR, in order to proceed with this suit
Please send us a copy of said resolution, so that we can proceed with the direction of Little Saskatchewan Indian Reserve members.
We are to meet with the lawyer, this week
Please respond at your earliest convenience.
