Did you know that 'Undara' is an Aboriginal word meaning β€˜long way’? πŸŒ‹ About 190,000 years ago, a large volcano erupted violently, spewing molten lava that travelled down a dry riverbed. The top outer later cooled, forming a crust while molten lava below drained outwards, leaving behind a series of hollow tubes.

During green season at Undara Lava Tubes there is a tube that bats fly out of. As they fly out night, tiger snakes pluck them out of the air. 4 years ago Alana and I were lucky enough to see it and film some of it. As we walked down to the lava tube, Savannah Guides told me that the snakes come past you on the ground, climb the trees and then hang out of the tree and snatch bats out of the air. I didn't believe it at first but it happened just like that! Mind blowing and this is one of only two places it is known to happen in the world. David Attenborough did it years ago and they said he was amazed by it. If you get the chance I would highly recommend seeing this!" After receiving just over 1000mm of rain over the wet season, this has caused the water levels to rise and the lava tubes to flood - something you don't see every day! We stayed three nights in the van park and did The Archway Explorer tour and last night the Wildlife Sunset tour. Wow what a terrific tour watching a spectacular sunset and then witnessing all the micro bats leaving there cave. This is a really great place to spend a few nights, thanks to Mark and his team for a terrific experience."
