Featuring the Running of the Sheep

“The Running of the Sheep” has been likened to the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona and is considered Boorowa’s special woolly version. It is not to be compared to the danger of the bulls as our sheep are cute and cuddly but certainly as visually exciting. Visitors love the sheepdog component when they see the trusty kelpi

es leaping on and off the sheep’s backs as they race down the street guided by Farmer Ashley on his four wheel motorbike. This is an opportunity to see Boorowa’s fine Merino sheep up close and personal. A sheep is shorn and the fleece is thrown on the stage to receive a spiritual thanksgiving for the fine wool of the district at The Ecumenical Blessing of the Fleece. Sheep shearing and displays captivate visitors all day providing an opportunity to see sheep in all their glory. Irish bands and dancers create the Irish spirit whilst top Irish performers appear on the main stage. Many people come to see Boorowa at its best and former residents return to catch up with their friends and relatives. For the children there are amusements, an Animal Farm, street performers and non stop entertainment. Boorowa Irish Woolfest showcases the Irish heritage and fine wool that is Boorowa. A Grower’s Market and a variety of quality stalls showcase country wares. Don’t miss this unique, true country experience which shows that part of Boorowa’s charm is its continuing Irish connections.
