The black cockatoo is stunning, and when spotted herald the coming of rain.��

Combining dry savannah, sub-tropical rainforest and coastal eco-systems, Bowen is a twitchers paradise. Mullers Lagoon is a bird-watching hot spot, with 23.57 hectares of wetland habitat easily accessible in the centre of town. Walking tracks surrounding the lagoon and a bird hide make for easy bird spotting. 176 species of bird have been identified in our backyard. Get your binoculours out and get outside!

Visitors to Bowen can step back in time and discover the past by visiting the Catalina tribute erected on the original concrete hardstand base on Santa Barbara Pde.��

During the battle of the Coral Sea, construction of a slipway was commenced on the Bowen foreshore to maintain the Catalina Flying Boats and from 1942 this was the site of the various RAAF operational and maintenance units. Local buildings were commandeered to house the influx of servicemen & ground crews.
