My guest from Barcelona wanted to endure the bad weather and still go on the North Stradbroke Island Tour with me yesterday.

And it turned out we only got a spat of rain, so now and then ๐Ÿ˜Š

The moody weather always inspires me because of the color changes all the time.

We managed to find the koalas and kangaroos and spotted a few Humpback Whales on the Gorge Walk and a large pod of Dolphins. Sadly, we spotted no turtles as the ocean was choppier and had high swells.

Still a great day out. ๐Ÿค—

Last week, during the tour, we were surprised by some rain. Luckily, the canopy of the rainforest kept us dry.

It was actually very refreshing after a dry period. You can feel the spring coming as the birds are already starting to practice their songs.

I just had to share this photograph of a proud mum with her little bub taken today on the Kangaroos, Ocean, and Mangroves Tour.

The photograph has been taken with a zoom lens to not disturb them. ๐Ÿ˜‰

It is always fun when little Joey starts to experiment with eating the grass while still safe and snug in Mum's pouch.

This female is a great mum and has brought up quite a few healthy Joeys.

It fills me with so much joy to share these magic moments. ๐Ÿฅฐ

If you want to join me on this tour with a larger group of up to 6 people, let me know two weeks in advance so I can arrange another comfortable car.

More photographs of the day will follow soon ๐Ÿ˜Š

Last weekend, I had an excellent cooperation with StradEasy. I was asked to show a group of 14 guests around the island for the day.
They arranged the transport and a great driver, Chris, for me.

It was such a pleasure showing this great group around the beautiful island, and they were totally in awe of it.

Let me know if you want to go on a tour with a larger group, and I'll see what I can do to collaborate with other tour operators to give you a great day out.

Every year, I join Brisbane Whale Watching for at least one tour to get up close to my favorite animal, the Humpback Whale.

Today was the day, and it was absolutely amazing. We encountered several pods, and they were very interactive with us.

It amazes me every time that they are so curious, friendly and entertaining towards us after all the harm we have done and still do. At the moment, the most significant problems are shark nets, windmills and undersea explosives.

I saw so many positive reactions from guests on board today. One gentleman told me it was the most calming experience of his lifetime. How good is that? It is clear to me that we should do everything we can to protect these beautiful creatures.

Brisbane Whale Watching can be found under recommendations on my website www.brisbanenaturetours.com

Another excellent opportunity to see the Humpback Whales is to join me on the North Stradbroke Island Tour, where we can see them from the Gorge Walk-in Point Lookout.

I enjoyed taking a mother and daughter with me on the Bribie Island Tour for some quality time.

Although the migrating birds have left, there is still more than enough to explore on the island.

The view of the Glasshouse Mountains is never the same, and always knows how to impress.

We still found many birdlife and were lucky that the Soldier crabs appeared on the mudflats.

The Banksia Robur was also flowering, which attracted different honey eaters.

If you'd like to join me on this tour with 6 people, please let me know 2 weeks in advance, and I will arrange another comfortable car.

We now have our 3 osprey chicks; however, on this cold and blustery day Hope and George aren't standing up too much to give us a good look. The crows are also still being a persistent nuisance at the nest, and with the chicks still so small they are at real threat.

A big surprise awaited us last Friday at Bellthorpe Stays: Natures Retreat. It was a cool day, but we found this huge carpet snake basking in the sun.

It was very slow because of the temperature, so we could look closely.

It was at least 3 meters long.

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of taking a scientific illustrator to Bellthorpe Stays. It was very windy and cold, so the birds were not very active in the morning. In the afternoon, at Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve, she took a few great bird pictures. She even managed to take a great photograph of the Whipbird.

13/07/2024

On the Bellthorpe Rainforest Tour, we cross one of the many waterfalls on the property. We always have a little break here to enjoy this magic spot.

After the crossing, we walk to a beautiful lookout before we head back along the creek where the Platypus lives to the milk shed.

The milk shed is renovated into an environment center where we have a cuppa with the owner, David.

Photographs of the tour last Friday will follow soon as we had an exciting encounter ๐Ÿ˜

A few photographs of our North Stradbroke Island Tour last week.

The moody weather still gives enough opportunity to take photos. Just playing with the colors, light and shadows.

The Gorge Walk at North Stradbroke Island never disappoints. Although it was not the sunny weather we hoped for, the days turned out well.

It is great to see that the kangaroo mobs keep strong and healthy. There is enough space and food to go around. Also, the mobs seem to hang out with each other without any arguments.

Hope is doing really well sitting on the eggs and turning them around. It is great to observe her on the we**am at Osprey House Environment Centre

It was a bit cloudy on Saturday and a spat of rain, but we had a wonderful day on the North Stradbroke Island Tour.

Lots of Humpback Whales passed by. We also encountered Dolphins and a few Turtles.

We enjoyed a Prawn roll from The Prawn Shack while we looked for more Whales passing by from the Gorge Walk.

Brown Lake's reflection was magic, as was the sunset from the ferry SeaLink Stradbroke Island.

We had a wonderful time at the Maiala Rainforest Tours this week. The temperature at the start of the walk was around 8 degrees, so the coffee and tea afterward were very welcome.

It is still very quiet in the rainforest regarding the birdlife. But yesterday morning, we had just set foot in the rainforest and could admire the female rifle bird.

An excellent review of the Bribie Island Birdlife Tour this week ๐Ÿ˜Š

I went on a tour (Bribie Island) with Anita/Brisbane Nature Tours and had a wonderful day. She is very knowledgeable about animals, plants, and the history of the area. The car was clean and very comfortable, and the lunch spot had many varied options. The highlights of the day were birds that I had never seen, such as rainbow bee-eater and yellow robin, besides a sea eagle. We enjoyed watching a juvenile gannet catch and then try to eat a small fish. I would absolutely book with this company again. She's very willing to email and interact about details to make the trip work well.

We had a great time again last week at Bellthorpe Stays: Natures Retreat and Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve

The weather was beautiful, with blue skies and lots of sunshine showing the fantastic colors of the rainforest canopy.

The birdlife was very quiet. The night before, it had been very windy, so they might have had a rough night.

Plenty of pademelons at Mary Cairncross.

It is Whale Highway ๐Ÿณ again on the Gorge Walk at North Stradbroke Island. Yesterday, we encountered several pods of Whales. They were happily breaching, flapping, and putting up a real show.

Large numbers will come past the island these months. The mothers will swim to Harvey Bay to give birth before returning to Moreton Bay Marine Park.

I have been told that I got the Hervey Bay story wrong. If you read this link https://www.oceania.org.au/expedition/hervey.html #:~:text=Hervey%20Bay%20is%20a%20unique,to%20their%20Antarctic%20feeding%20grounds. it tells you that the warm water is safe for the newborns but that they are not necessary born in Hervey Bay. Thanks for pointing this out to me as this has been a learning curve.

Happy tour guide and very happy guests. ๐Ÿค—

It was great to be back at Bellthorpe Stays: Natures Retreat and Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve last week.

There was enough to hear and see on both walks.

Elizabeth and Shane from Hamilton, Victoria, joined me for three tours. They were a fantastic couple to have with me on several tours. Elizabeth left me a great review ๐Ÿ˜Š

Viator review: Bellthorpe Rainforest Private Tour

10/10
From start to finish, this was a wonderful trip.
Waterfalls, beautiful scenery, birds, pademelons, and the views going to and from this adventure were amazing. Stopping for lunch with the Glasshouse Mountains in the background is hard to beat. I cannot express how much I loved this trip. Anita is fantastic with her knowledge of the local fauna and flora. She is also great company.

Another new tour is in the making. The Glasshouse Mountains Tour. The scenic walks will discover dramatic peaks with magnificent views.

The tour will only be available from June till August. The other months are too hot to do these walking tracks.

The tracks go through a forest with stringybark, blackbutt, pink bloodwood, grey ironbark, scribbly gums, she-oaks, grass trees, banksia, ferns, and beautiful flowering groundcovers and scrubs.

The bird life is very diverse. Today, I encountered the Lewis Honeyeater, Rufous and Grey Fantails, Yellow Robin, Peregrine Falcon, Yellow-Tailed Black Cockatoo, Superb Fairy-Wren, Willie Wagtail, Spotted Pardalote, and Red-browed Treecreeper.

We will have lunch at Scarborough on the way back, followed by a scenic drive with ocean views.

I hope to offer this tour soon on my website. If you can't wait, send me an email to [email protected]

On Saturday, we had the rainforest all to ourselves. It was very foggy, and there was a bit of rain, which kept many weekenders away, but the atmosphere was serene and refreshing.

We did not get soaked, just a bit damp and deserved our morning thee after the walk.

I had the pleasure of showing Jane from Downunder Travel around. She had been to several conferences and meetings, so being in the rainforest was an excellent closure to her trip from Canada before returning.
