Why Smart Travelers Never Take Taxis from Rome Airport

You just landed at Fiumicino. You’re tired, jet-lagged, and dragging luggage. A taxi driver appears like magic:
“City center? Only 60 euros, my friend!”

It sounds easy. Door-to-door service. No thinking required.

But what you don’t realize is: you just paid 4–5 times more than Romans do for the same trip.

The official taxi fare is €48. But with luggage fees, night surcharges, and a bit of “creativity,” that price climbs fast. Many tourists end up paying €65 or more.

Meanwhile, Romans take the Leonardo Express — a clean, quiet, direct train to Termini Station. It runs every 15 minutes, from early morning until late at night. The ride costs just €14, includes your luggage, and gets you into central Rome in 32 minutes. From there, the Metro is €1.50. Easy.
