On a Winter trip to Kangaroo Island, we always suggest a stop at Pennington Bay, on your drive from the ferry to Island Chalet. It is a beautiful introduction to Kangaroo Island! Hooded Plovers nest on the sand and you can see them running to the water's edge and back (dogs on leash!)

I had a couple of relaxing , late summer days at Island Chalet. It was tropical, cloudy and warm, with gentle greys on the morning walks along the beach. A treat on the last day was a koala outside the kitchen widow.

On an October visit to Island Chalet, I enjoyed the new kitchen and finally retired our vintage barbecue. Now you can bake or grill your favourite cut outside on a brand new weber. The early morning walks along the beach were beautiful as always!

Our kitchen, altho bright and functional, was in need of a little updating, so we have just completed a full upgrade - all new appliances, including a dishwasher! It was a wild and stormy July but in the breaks managed to squeeze in some beautiful dawn walks as well!

Wildlife is not unusual at Island Chalet - a koala often feeds in the big gum outside the kitchen window, a mob of wallabies grazing on the lawn, but this was a special moment recently when a dolphin cruised by, not 15m from the beach. He seemed to be fishing!

Late Autumn is a lovely time to visit Kangaroo Island. The weather is often still and warm but the nights and mornings are cool and rain has often worked its magic on the bush.
