Discovered how camouflaged tiger snakes are… lying in the sand and sticks and flood detritus next to the river. I didn’t see it until it shot off into river and swam to the other side . They are very fast..

A great day on the water yesterday with Greg. He has fished a bit here and there but it was his first day stream fishing here in VIC.

Humid and overcast is great for fishing dry flies.

Andrew a return client, wanted to put less flies in the trees, catch more (and miss fewer fish). With on stream tuition on casting, stream craft and line management. Andrew dinished the day with 11(out of 15 chances) in the net more than doubling his previous best day. Only 2 flies donated to the trees. And a big smile!!!

The other day, I was lucky enough to see a rainbow trout rise to my dry fly, he nosed it, I didn’t set the hook, he looked at it , I didn’t set the hook, he sucked it under but didn’t eat it , I don’t set the hook He stared at it under water for ages before inhaling it… I finally set the hook. Polaroids and a good vantage point allowed me to judge it just right… This behaviour explains some of the “missed” fish over the years…

Love that last hour of light. I fished till I couldn’t see the fly.. 6 to hand , and lost a few trying to horse them on the barbless fly.. lucky I had my torch to find my back..

Whether was pretty unstable last night, but I still managed to find a few browns willing to take the dry in the rain.
