Brainstorming meeting with Lawson Heath, long time client whose business I branded 10 years ago. Hey Logan Hyperdome Chiropractic Centre, it must be time for a rebrand? 😜

I seem to have had a run on signage… everyone s’been updating their old signage, from roof and awning signs to flags and merch. Must be a sign of the times 🤔

Clearly not all my work is done in the office 😉

The Byron Bay Surf Life Saving Club (BBSLC) logo was a sign as opposed to a logo yet the brief was to replicate it. So after searching for a font to mimic a hand drawn sign and styling the type accordingly, it was apparent the replicated design didn’t cut it. In the digital age where everything is perfect, it is surprisingly difficult to give a design the same nuances and character of yesteryear without taking hours, blowing budgets and looking too amateur. So, we ended up using the existing design as inspo only and opted to strive for a vintage vibe in a design that would work in all manner of uses.

Baz & Shaz Fruit & Veg also liked their existing logo and hoped for a replication however after presenting a similar design styled differently, they agreed the new design looked better.

Recreating designs from the past to use in current times mostly don’t work without some design attention to help them belong in the now, whether it be a change of colour, or font, or in the Baz & Shaz case, an update in illustration style. All of the above usually turns into a total redesign and while it may cost more than the client intended, they always walk away with a spring in their step and an invigorated lease on their business life. Win win, I say.

There’s been some behind the scenes rebranding action here at pm3 HQ… been doing a bit of housekeeping and giving myself a freshen up. Ditching the pink and orange for mustard, terracotta and olive green and after many attempts at completely changing the logo, I went full circle and ended up returning to my existing typographical design, giving it a simple makeover by ditching the detail, tightening it up and updating the colours. Its hard work being a client! 😜

Too funny and too true. As a design pro I was reluctant to venture down the Canva path… why would I use it over Illustrator, Photoshop etc? Well let’s face it, those are complex, sophisticated programs and sometimes overkill for a simple task like a social post… the animation function alone is enough of a reason to use it… so simple, so user friendly. And then there’s the ability for clients to finally have a nicely designed document they can edit themselves – instead of asking their designer to ‘create’ it in Word. This is a game changer for me and obliterates Word, once and for all, from my orbit. A designer and Word can never be friends, while Canva can be a collaborative friend with benefits.
