From scholar sa La Salle na naging dishwasher sa Australia and now owner of 5x businesses on the land down under.

Share ko lang mabilis yung journey ko dito sa Australia and sana may ma inspire tayo kahit isa lang hehe. ❤️

April of 1993 I was born to a middle class family. My mum worked as a journalist and my dad worked as an art director. They’re both your regular hard working Filipino parents.

Summer of 2013 I graduated from De La Salle College of Saint Benilde with a degree in Multimedia Arts. Hindi po ako anak mayaman, I got a full scholarship which I was super grateful for. While I was studying, I did lots of side work as a photographer so I have money to buy school requirements and to join the school field trips. To be honest, money was very tight that time and I couldn’t afford to pay for the year book, so I think wala ako sa year book ng class of 2013 haha.

I worked in Manila for just over year as a photographer and designer then I moved to Sydney Australia as an international student noong July of 2014, with the help of my tita.

Because I graduated with honours and high marks, most of the time nasa Dean’s List ako and yung thesis go ginamit pa ng school to present sa PAASCU (yes medyo proud ng konti haha), I thought my first job in Australia will be my dream job straight away, pero hindi, my first job was a dishwasher. Yes, tiga hugas ng pinggan sa isang chocolate cafe sa tabi ng Opera House. Iyak talaga ako noon kasi I didn’t imagine na magiging ganon yung work ko after 4 years of hard work in college. Kakainis pa kasi dishwashing was my least favourite chore when I was a kid haha.

I also did other work na hindi pasok sa linya ko like bartending sa sports arena at tiga abot ng lagare at barena sa tito ko na karpintero. But I gotta do what I gotta do to survive and to provide for my family.

After months of job hunting while studying, I finally got a job as a photographer sa isang water park sa Sydney, then on the side I was teaching photography na din, shooting events and doing guest speaking sa corporate events. Then eventually, I got a social media manager job at a marketing agency.

My boss was going to sponsor me for work visa. They actually started the process when I said to myself, I don’t want to get stuck in this routine, working on a job I don’t enjoy. Lots of family and friends told me na tiisin ko lang dahil very rare ang ganitong opportunity. But I know in my heart na I’d rather go back to the Philippines than get stuck in this job.

Ilang beses na ako muntik sumuko. Hindi ko mabilang yung gabi na kausap ko yung family ko sa FaceTime habang umiiyak - thinking na I should go back home. Pag tapos namin mag call I will listen to King of My Heart by Bethel Music to remind myself and na He will never let me down.

Long story short, I quit my job and told my boss not to worry about my work visa sponsorship. I took a leap of faith and started my own photography and video production business in 2019.

For me, I want to break the poverty cycle in my family. I want to be that person who my grandkids will look up to and thank because I planted the seeds for them to harvest.

Today, January 2024, ako ay Permanent Resident na and have built 5 businesses here in Australia and 3 in the Philippines. I was able to help my mum with her Granola business (Granola Manila) in Manila and my sister with her custom cakes business (Cakes by France). I was able to support my youngest sister’s college degree and now she’s a doctor, I was able to support my dad to retire early… and currently we’re building a house in Manila for my parent’s retirement home. I’m also building a small community dito sa Australia where I coach and mentor Filipinos who want to get out of the norm and have a more fulfilling life.

Now, on most days, I wake up every morning thinking what I want to do rather than what I have to do. My goal was to be that person who can be available anytime na kailangan ako ng family and friends ko. I don’t want to be that person who miss family events and celebrations because I have to work.

I want to leave you guys with this, never stop chasing the life you want. Surround yourself with people that are smarter than you, better than you and richer than you. This is how you will Ascend in life.

The only limitation you have is what’s in your mind. Work smart, work hard and pray harder.

I would like to thank my parents for allowing me to be whoever I want to be, my sisters for being my constant support, my tita and her family for giving me the opportunity to come to Australia, to my wife who accepted me when I had absolutely nothing to offer (apart from my good looks and 6-pack abs, joke HAHA) and to my son, Zion, who always bring smile to my face even tho he won’t let me sleep at night haha.

At syempre, to my God and saviour, Jesus Christ for not letting me down. 🙏🏻
