Recently delivered Herringbone dining and gaming table. 🕊🦴🍽. This table was designed and created for the client and their love of wood, food, drinks, games and company all in the one space. Made from recycled timber, this dining table top lifts off to reveal storage and the ability to continue with board games or jigsaw puzzles from days before. Designed with cup holder storage underneath for games nights and a stand for the table top when removed, the client is thrilled with the result and plans to use it for years to come. If you want a completely custom dining table, please get in touch! www.eacdesign.com.au

Thought it was time for an update of some projects which have been delivered recently.

▪️A birchwood ply plinth and the install of a showcase for a large model ship.

▪️An EACDESIGN bench seat made from ‘mixed red’ recycled timber from ; and

▪️A 2.7 metre long floating shelf unit joinery and book case from recycled ‘mixed browns’ (material was also from Thors).

These projects all involved working with the clients to create the designs and items they wanted. Some complex challenges that I really enjoyed.

I’m now getting stuck into some business admin and lots of design/drawings over the next few days before the next jobs start.

Thanks for all your continued support and interest!

Always a pleasure to work with some incredible pieces of Australian timber and excellent clients.

This 2900mm long by 1450mm wide redgum dining table was designed by the clients to showcase the slabs that came from a family property. The slabs are joined using asymmetric curves to make the most of the timber. The base was designed by the client, fabricated by Revolution Welding and powder coated by .

This dining table is going to be in the family for many years to come.

This is a snapshot of some the projects I have completed as yesterday marked 1 year since taking EACDESIGN full time.
(wow, what a year! where did it go? 🧐)

I expected the move to be challenging as I adjusted to the difficulties that being self employed brings, and it has been.
But what I didn’t expect were the benefits….

- The flexibility of being in control of my workload, workflow and hours.

- Being able to work on exciting projects with trusting and supportive clients.

- The benefit and support of working in a shared space with a small community of amazing and likeminded local makers.

- And possibly, most of all, the happiness created by an improved work/life balance - something I didn’t realise I lacked or needed.

None of this could be possible without the support from old clients, new clients, family, friends and the Insta and Facebook community….

But most of all the ongoing, unwavering support and trust of my wife, who, in the background keeps me on track, stays positive and is always there.

You do so much and I could not do this without you . Thank you for everything you do for me the business and our little family.

👩🏻🐕👷🏼❤️

Let’s see what the next 12 months has in store.

With gratitude and love.

Today’s delivery: an American oak sideboard to be used in an open plan living room/dining area.🪵🍷

The sideboard features:
☑️ herringbone detailed door and drawer fronts;
☑️ custom brass detailing and oak wine glass holders;
☑️segmented storage for wine bottles; and
☑️adjustable shelves that make this unit more functional as the client can position the shelves to suit their needs.

This was a fantastic project which made me find some new ways of solving problems. Can’t wait to see where this piece travels to with the client in the future! 🌎

It was great to get an early Saturday morning delivery done and dusted to some very happy and patient clients.

This is a 1650mm round dining table that was ordered before the covid-19 lockdown break. It is a custom made from recycled blackbutt and finished in OSMO both sourced from .

The top is 36 mm thick and has a 65 degree bevel on the bottom edge to lighten the visual weight.

This was a fun job, thanks N+P!

Slide right to see a few before shots of the recycled wood, and the bear claw looking joint I used to add additional support to the leg structure.

Have a great weekend! 👍🚐🪵🍴

Just a few shots of the 2.9m American Oak entertainment unit that was delivered after the covid-19 break.

I was really happy with how this job turned out, as were the clients. I worked closely with them after they came to me with a drawing clearly indicating what they were after (see last two photos). Only a few minor changes were made to their original design.

The finished piece is specifically dimensioned for the clients needs. It fits well into their space and includes storage spaces to suit electronics and display items of personal value.

You can check out the process to make this piece on my Instagram story highlights - - I’ll be finishing posting these in the next few days.

So it has been just over 3 months since taking EACDESIGN full time and I’m loving everything about it. Although I’ve been updating day-to-day work when I can on Insta stories, I thought it was time to do a post so you could see what’s been happening. The first few months have been a bit of a learning curve with taking control of my hours, learning that “admin” is still work - even though it doesn’t feel like it, and dealing with the lack of stock and back order pitfalls that come with being in a trade during a pandemic renovation boom… but things are going pretty well.

Since my last post I have been lucky enough to have old clients return, new clients through referrals and met and worked with some great local makers and trades. Being a part of the wood working community in Canberra has been amazing with support, help, work and ideas being offered from whoever I meet.

There are quotes in the works, accepted quotes on jobs I’m ready to start and some exciting projects and opportunities later in the year. Although I am trying my best to keep up with the day-to-day work through Insta stories a goal I have is to make project specific posts more regularly - fingers crossed!

In the meantime apologies for the radio silence and slide left to have a look at some of the projects I have worked on so far this year.

- Wall hung TV unit in white film face ply.
- Secret storage behind American Oak built in bookcase.
- Floating shelves in white film face ply.
- Under stair wine cellar.
- Monster spotted gum top and vanities.

Thanks for the support. 🙌

It’s been a month since I left my job to run EACDESIGN as a business full time. I am already learning a lot and have heaps still to learn, but I am overwhelmed and grateful for the support that has been shown and excited about all that’s to come.

Now I’m not usually one to ask but...
if, in the coming months or year, you, your friends or your family are thinking of getting a particular piece of furniture, a gift, or are in need of some custom joinery for the home or house please don’t hesitate to get in contact with me or pass on my information. I am more than happy to assist in whatever way I can.

Thank you once again for all of the support.

After 8 and a half years the time has come for me to take the first nervous step and walk out the doors of Designcraft to take EACDESIGN full time. I am extremely grateful to have worked with some of the best cabinetmakers in Canberra. I am proud of the furniture maker, cabinetmaker and tradesperson I have become and know that the skills I have gathered over the last 8 and a half years will put me in good stead to run a successful small business. Thank you to the wife and doggo for the continual support and to all of the friends, family and clients who have trusted me over the last ten years as EACDESIGN started and grew - I look forward to working with and alongside you into the future at EACDESIGN - Custom furniture and joinery.
