Not far from the Homestead! A visit to Wilson’s promontory should be in everyone’s bucket list 😊
Gippsland’s very own Squeaky Beach has just been named No.1 in Tourism Australia's annual list of the Best Australian Beaches! 🌊
This is the first time a Victorian beach has been named at No.1 🙌 - with the top spot usually going to NSW or Queensland.
Situated in the glorious Wilsons Promontory National Park 🌿 and enclosed by massive granite boulders at both ends, Squeaky Beach earns its distinctive name thanks to the famous white quartz sand that squeaks beneath your feet as you stroll along. 😮
Squeaky Beach can be easily accessed on foot from the carpark 🚗 but, if you’re after the full experience, you can walk from Tidal River 🚶 and take in the epic views across Tidal River, Norman Bay and Squeaky Beach (6.34 km / 1.5 hour walk).
The Federal Tourism Minister, Senator Don Farrell announced the Best Australian Beaches of 2023 in Melbourne this morning, with Squeaky Beach ranking right up there with The Farm (NSW) and Cockle Creek (Tasmania). 🫶
The annual list of Australia's best beaches is compiled by Brad Farmer - a man who sure knows his beaches! Farmer is a ocean conservationist 🌊, best-selling author 📖, founder of and Foundation Australia 🏄, and is a recipient of the Medal of the Order of Australia.
It turns out has also got in on the act - Squeaky Beach has been included in their newly released book - ‘Lonely Planet’s Best Beaches: 100 of the world’s best beaches.’ It was 1 of only 9 Australian beaches named in the top 100!
