Mungalla Aboriginal Tours

Mungalla Aboriginal Tours Mungalla Aboriginal Tours is a multi award winning Aboriginal Business running tours since 2006. Experience our rich culture and history.

Come share a unique experience of the culture and history of Mungalla Station and its Aboriginal owners. Discover the Culture and History of Mungalla Station and the Nywaigi Aboriginal People of North Queensland. Meet the Nywaigi Aboriginal people, the Aboriginal traditional owners of the lands around Ingham in North Queensland. Learn of the often brutal conflict between Nywaigi Aboriginal people

and European settlers that shaped the destiny of North Queensland. Explore the property established by James Cassady, who fled the potato famine of Ireland and created a pastoral dynasty. Visit the birthplace of the world famous mighty Droughtmaster cattle, the original homestead, the graves of James Cassady and his son, the wetlands and precious birdlife. Be amazed by the story of the Aboriginal people from Mungalla Station and surrounding areas that were exhibited as cannibals and savages in the nineteenth century circuses and sideshows of Europe and America. Try your hand at throwing a boomerang or spear. This is an authentic Aboriginal experience that will stay with you long after you return home.

Wonderful to get feedback from guests on our tour.
"I just wanted to thank you for such a nice excursion to your Mungalla. We had so much fun learning your ways and experiencing your cattle station.

Keep up the great work you are trying to do to help the youth of your community turn into productive, meaningful citizens. It is so important in all communities, but especially in yours from what you taught us today.

We loved that you drove us in the bus, with me in the front seat boring you with all my questions, and stopping along the road to demonstrate "sandpaper plant" and green ants. It was very interesting.

Everyone really got a kick out of throwing the boomerangs and almost killing three visitors...haha!

Wishing you and your family much success in the future.""

Some of the amazing birdlife on Mungalla Station ….a big thankyou to Simon Kennedy from Birdlife Australia who does an amazing job documenting and recording the birds on Mungalla and particularly the birdlife returning as a result of the wetland restoration projects. Amazing to see the rare Long Toed Stint all the way from Russia...apparently this bird hasn't been seen in Queensland for a number of years and the baby Sea Eagle...great to see heaps of Pelicans in Molonga creek as well.

Blak, loud and proud' the children did hand prints on the cut-out fire trees to keep in with the 2024 theme. Wonder if our plane is still flying around?

We’re thrilled to introduce ‘Mungalla’, the newest Boeing 737-800 in our fleet. Named after Mungalla Station, the flagship site of Greening Australia’s Reef Aid project, the aircraft is now in service across our domestic network.

Launched in 2016, Reef Aid aims to improve water quality on the Great Barrier Reef by restoring 700 hectares of priority coastal wetlands and 2000 hectares of eroding gullies across the reef catchment area.

Mungalla Station has some great native ingredients that can be used in cooking flavorsome meals...

Indigenous chef Jack Brown is on a mission to get more native Australian ingredients into everyday cooking. Brown was trained in traditional French cuisine, and believed Australians are not making the most of the abundant ingredients available in our own backyards.

Mungalla Aboriginal Tours had the pleasure of hosting the staff from State Development & Infrastructure, Townsville this month. Great bunch of folks. They enjoyed the day and were kind enough to send us some great feedback

“It was incredible to learn about how the Nywaigi Aboriginal people use their deep relationship and knowledge with nature to survive – accessing fruits, seafood, plants and wildlife for food and to make goods”. – Amy Savage, A/Regional Director

“I was pleased to gain insight into the initiatives being undertaken in the region to preserve natural wetlands and to reinstate connection to country”. – Travis Johnson, Graduate Legal Officer

“Seeing the homestead as it stands today and what remains of the original property landscape (the original pillars that are still standing and the graves of James Cassady and his son, the first European settlers on Mungalla), put it all into perspective.” – Sharon Po***ck, Principal Economic Development Officer

“the captive lives exhibition/story really captured me. Truth telling is such an important part of reconciliation and it is by bringing to light these stories that I think we can honor and understand the experiences of Aboriginal People and start taking steps toward healing and unity.” – Mara Emmerling, Graduate Policy Officer, Industry Strategy

Thanks guys from the staff of Mungalla Station

Up the River!!

The mighty Herbert River💧

The Herbert River travels through the Hinchinbrook Region and leads out to the channels🎣 It is wild in the floods but a gentle sandy river in the dry season. The Herbert River is home to many crocodiles 🐊
