CLIMATE CHANGE SCIENTIST, AUTHOR & CONSERVATIONIST

I have authored 10 books and have more than three decades experience in IT&T, media/communications and sustainable tourism. In 2012, I secured a Master’s in Climate Change, specialising in Adaptation & Mitigation. For the past five years I have been working with Indigenous and underprivileged communities across the Asia-Pacific region; helping th

em increase resilience, restore degraded ecosystems and refurbish essential health & educational facilities. I fund this work through a social enterprise business I own called SUP Wilderness Adventures; which was founded 5 years ago here on the Gold Coast. I coordinate clean-ups in the wetlands, lakes and waterways of the Gold Coast and undertake community clean-ups in remote locations across the Pacific. I am one of three volunteer turtle rescuers here on the Gold Coast and I am a member of Wildcare Australia. My passion lies in restoring degraded ecosystems and finding new ways to re-purpose waste.

My Story

My story matters little, what matters more is what I hope to do.

I have chosen to run a very low-key campaign, as I don’t like to see wasteful behaviour. Plastic corflute and bunting, pamphlets nobody reads, ads everyone scoffs at... it all seems rather wasteful to me and the money could be put to much better use!

Contrary to what everyone tells me and expects, I’m not here to self-promote. I’m happy to be open about who I am so you can get to know me, but the purpose of being a Councillor is to REPRESENT the desires of constituents, not tell everyone how great you are for simply doing your job.

Councillors have been elected to advocate on behalf of residents in their Division. The hardest work is done by those who work for Council and are tasked with drafting feasibility studies, implementation plans and attempting to wring blood from a rather large and complex stone.
