Space for yoga and meditation, chef cooked meals by dedicated bar tenders , picnic baskets, grazing platters, cocktails and clay with massages, and gin tasting are just some of the activities available.

Japan. I have recently spent a few weeks exploring rural Japan in the search of new places to send you!

A truly year round destination with an abundance of mountains, 100’s year old hiking trails, ski slopes, waterfalls, empty towns, traditional onsen resorts and ridiculously good food.

The Yen has weakened making Japan an affordable destination to explore. My $10 lunches in Tokyo would include a beer and gyozas or a plate of sashimi.

Japan has a story to tell and with so many untapped areas to discover…. There never has been a better time to go…..

School holidays are done …phew and a busy one!

Where did everyone go?
✈️ Greece, Italy, Spain, Portugal, London, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Korea, France, Japan, New Zealand, Bali, Singapore, Croatia, Dubai and the USA to name a few places.

I went to Townsville and Magnetic Island to watch the U16 🏀 … a good little escape from the GC winter 😜

Now we gearing up to finalise everyone’s Rugby World Cup trips in September, White Christmas trips and adventure planning for 2024.

Japan is coming hot as the big favourite for Christmas along with the USA and Europe.

With only 167 days until 🎅, Flights are filling up fast for Christmas so get in touch if we need to book before it’s too late

Oh Japan 🇯🇵

Why is Japan hot right now?

✅ Japan has not had inflation like we have which means the YEN to AUD conversion is to our benefit.

✅ Its clean, easy to access and diverse.

🎿 🥾 🏔️ From Skiing, hiking, biking, the beaches of Okinawa, Hot springs, Cherry Blossoms there are so many different things to do in Japan - it’s an all year destination

My top tips for Japan

🍺 Drink where the locals drink you will be surprise at the low cost of food and beverages.

💴 Cash is still very much king in Japan

🍜 Its so clean that the meaning of eating takeaway at the train station takes on all new meaning, definitely try all the food

🚽 You never have to worry about dirty public toilets its just not a thing

Stay at at traditional Ryokan at least one to experience. From wearing your Yukata to dinner, experiencing a local Kaiskei dinner with local sake and matcha tea for dessert 🤤

…Yes the public Onsen you go a la -natural

📱 Google translate is a must!

🚊 Explore outside of the major cities. Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka are all fabulous and worth a visit but heading to rural Japan really provides authentic experiences

🇯🇵 First day in Japan spend with a local guide to get the hang of transport, ordering and Japanese etiquette

Who wants to go to Japan? 🙋‍♀️

Day 2 Milford sound

The next day we woke early and headed to Milford Sound aka bucket list for many of us. Ross our guide had his hand full with a group of 14 women but kept us together, informed and on time all day, with plenty of eco facts along the way.

Firstly we drove down to Milford from our lodge, geared up and hiked to Giant Gate Waterfall, the last section of the multi day Milford Sound hike. With anticipation we headed out on the water taxi through Milford Sound to the beginning of the hike. An 11 KM hike alongside the cascading Arthur River through lush rainforest to Giant Gate Waterfall. After lunch and a hot tea we hiked back and boarded our scenic Milford Sound cruise. The cruise literally went under waterfalls and along the way we saw dolphins, seals and an abundance of wildlife. After our cruise we headed back to our lodge for spas, wine and another three course meal.

Pictures and words can not do justice to the scenery of this day… but I will give it a go.

Well what can I say, somethings are worth waiting for and NZ didn’t disappoint…

Recap of Day 1 and 2….

We headed down to the on Sunday afternoon as everyone arrived. We were greeted with canapés, keys to our rooms and dinner. The biggest choice was what to select for entrees/main, desserts and wine. I went the yellowfin Tuna Tartare, Fresh Fish and local cheeses for dessert and of course the obligatory NZ pinot.

With our bellies full, we went to bed with excitement for the first day of hiking.

Monday was a day not to forget. Our helicopters arrived on scheduled to the lodge to chopper us to Luxmore Hut the start of our hike. No words to describe this but WOW and pictures don’t do it justice. At everyone’s own pace we walked further up to the summit and then back to Luxmore Hut and then all the way down to the lake for a water taxi back to the lodge. A long but satisfying day. Our passionate hiking guides ensured we were well equiped with gear, lunch and knowledge of our environment.

After our hike, we had a sneaky spa, wine and another three course dinner. Tonight I had the Venison curry and local Salmon… with a NZ pinot or two.

Off to sleep we went ready for a bucket list day tomorrow…Milford sound….

Finally….after two years of planning and waiting we are here!

In the early times of COVID we were told that NZ border will open first. In the midst of lockdown I designed a luxury women’s hiking getaway. Posted an Expression of Interest on my Instagram page and booked out in moments!

Of course, NZ didn’t open first and in fact the NZ border didn’t open early enough for the 2022 hiking season. So in 2023 we are finally here. Postponed, postponed and now we are ready to go.

Over the next 4 days we are heading down to a gorgeous lodge, hiking 3 of the great walks of NZ and wining and dining in style. Follow my insta stories for updates along the way.

Can’t wait to show you this special part of the world 🌎

Who remembers the old paper tickets? We are in the process of moving and found some old travel itineraries. Including our first trip overseas as a couple. We had no money and were excited to be paying $18 a night for a beach bungalow in Koh Phangan. The world has certainly changed since then
