Ooooh, I’m certainly chuffed to see Little Wren is now tagged as a Guest Favourite on Airbnb. I love our little slice of heaven out here, and there’s something truly special about Little Wren cottage, it’s so nice to know other people love it as much as I do.

I know they can be really destructive but these two cuties came to say hi yesterday, we rarely see the white ones at our place, so perfectly picturesque in our garden.

But about one minute after telling my husband they are cute in small doses, one of them pulled a bunch of leaves off my rose bush. Less cute now! 🤬🤣

Guest review: “Our stay at the cottage was an incredible experience. From the moment we arrived, we were surrounded by the beauty of the countryside. The location is picturesque, with rolling hills, lush pastures, and the cutest farm animals.

“The cottage itself was a dream - warm & cosy, and exudes a rustic charm that transports you back in time, yet with all the modern comforts you need for a relaxing stay. The attention to detail in the decor was remarkable, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

“Niki as a host was absolutely wonderful - she was friendly, attentive, and genuinely passionate about sharing her slice of heaven with guests. She went out of her way to ensure we had everything we needed and offered fantastic insights into the local areas and restaurant recommendations.

“Our stay truly exceeded our expectations and more. It's a tranquil, rejuvenating haven for anyone looking to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life. Five stars don't do it justice! We will be back xx”

Thank you, Jamie, for your gorgeous review of Little Wren last weekend. ❤️

Last lamb born for the year, look at this little mum and baby ❤️ These little brown lambs are the cutest, like little goats with super wiggly tails. Guests love feeding them, who could resist this cuteness? 😍

These little beds planted only a year ago are now overflowing with gorgeous winter roses. All of these hellebores were chosen by my little Sienna Rose, who has always been a little florist and gardener in the making. For Christmas when she was 5, she asked for a bigger flower patch of her own, isn’t that the sweetest? 🥰

And bringing along her own chair to sit on while shoveling… she’s got the right idea! 😄

Anyone who’s visited the Macedon Ranges in the cold months will know that these mountains know how to do winter! Sometimes sleeting sideways with the wind deafening in the trees, sometimes fluffy snowflakes dusting the fields, other times crunchy icy mornings underfoot with glorious bluebird skies and little scarlet robins hopping around saying hi.

Snuggled by the fire watching Mother Nature do her thing, in a cosy little cottage in the wild mountain countryside… sounds pretty perfect for a winter weekend away.

Garden lovers, listen up! 🌳🌷

Spring is in the air and it’s time to grab tickets to the most popular , hosted by the oldest garden club in Victoria at the historic gardens on Mt Macedon.

Even better, Mt Macedon is home to Victoria’s most significant collection of 19th century European style gardens and their extravagant homes, and with spring comes the opening of some of these incredible private gardens to the public, for only a short time.

If you are yet to visit the Macedon Ranges, spring is a beautiful time to visit, whether you’re surrounded by lambs and daffodils, or dusted by spring snow.

I love these beautiful mornings where we have gorgeous clear skies and can see soft misty clouds settled in amongst the Cobaws. These are the best winter days, where the fog and cloud and moody skies lift and we can enjoy these views for miles. 😍 (well, ok, a snowy day wins but those are few and far between!)

Lamb spam 😍 Double the cuteness with these little 2 day old twins, Peas and Mash.

There is a big tub of sheep pellets that must be like candy, they bloody love it! We have it right near the cottage so as soon as the guests step outside they get some gentle (ok, vigorous!) encouragement from the sheep to hand some over. Such a good opportunity to see these new little babies up close, while feeding mummy sheep from your hand.

Check out this little cutie, one of a set of twins “Peas” and “Mash” born yesterday.

I saw mummy sheep roaming the paddock with only one baby by her side so headed out to help find the missing baby, slightly worried that the wedged tail eagle I spotted earlier might have seen her…. 😳

Thankfully I found her nestled happily amongst some long native grass in the paddock, and on seeing me she wobbled to her feet and made her way to me thinking I might be her mum. Look at that cute little pink face! 😍

Dreaming of another snowy day like the magical one here 4 years ago.

In bed, scrolling my phone that morning, I heard there was snow in Romsey. I got out of bed to open the blinds and check if there were any snowflakes in the sky here. I still remember the blind slowly coming up and the little peek I had of a thick white blanket outside! And the subsequent squealing and bundling the kids up into snow gear to get out in it. 😃

We have had flurries since but were spoilt by that spectacular morning and every winter now we wait with baited frosty breath for another day like this.

I’ve spent a few days revisiting Little Wren and whilst it’s only a few hundred meters away it feels very different from our house up the hill.

It’s so quiet and calm, a little old shack nestled amongst the trees, with only fields and mountains and trees to gaze out at. It feels like when I close the old wooden door, I close it on the noise of the world.

I spent the weekend with my in-laws at their new house near Ballarat, and found myself sitting at the table unable to stop gazing out at their vista; fields of long dry grass, dotted with a handful of sheep under the gum trees, and closer, the magpies searching for worms after the rain.

Does anything still the mind and calm the body more than a quiet spot to watch nature just going about doing it’s thing?

Gosh, maybe my friend who is new to Macedon Ranges winters is right? Maybe spring IS in the air? 😍

These glorious sunny mornings, with a light misty haze over frosty fields are the absolute best, and make for my favorite morning drives to kinder.

Master James is well accustomed to my emergency stops for photography and sometimes the school run takes twice as long as I expected… strange… 😉

My sweet Little Wren is lucky enough to have a few quiet days here and there through the colder months, enough time for a little self care and grooming. I’ve loved putting together well loved treasures to fill Little Wren’s heart. 🥰

A little down time and hibernation, reflection and quiet, something we could all do with a little more of, before spring beckons us back into the sunshine!

As so much of Australia copped a wild, wintery blast this weekend, Little Wren kept her guests cosy and warm - sitting by the fire in a little, old farmers hut, rain on the tin roof, windows framing the dark clouds rolling down from the mountains into the gum trees… it feels like you are the only two people in the world and that’s a magical place to be.

Moody mountain weather, how otherworldly is this light? Sometimes I think the Macedon Ranges is a bit like Mordor, with dark ominous clouds smothering the glowing red skies. I don’t think I’m too far off tonight!

Winter here in the Macedon Ranges is like nothing else. It’s often grey and misty, the cloud settling low in the mountains. But when the sun forces it’s way through late in the day to shine on the highest peaks, it is truly the most magical light, like there’s almost no light left in it, only the colour.

Looking up the drive from Little Wren, and behind the main house on the Glenwood estate, lies the Black Range Forest, wild and untouched and yours to roam. If you’re lucky, you’ll get up there at the golden hour, it’s truly magic.

And in the meantime, you can give the little kangaroo wardens a wave as you pass.
