Howard District Visitor Centre

Howard District Visitor Centre We provide a friendly information service to locals & visiting travelers as we promote the district, history & local businesses, hand made crafts & gifts.

Howard and District Arts Craft and Information Centre is a Not For Profit community organisation aimed at enhancing the experience of staying in the Burrum district, which is part of the beautiful Fraser Coast. We want to give visitors the opportunity to be informed about the recreation, and accommodation that is available in our area. While at the HDACIC our visitors will also be able to view and

buy art and craft items that have been handmade by many of our talented locals. While enjoying a devonshire tea with scones our guests will also have an opportunity to chat with local people and learn more about the history of our part of the world, the most prominent being that in 1863 the Miller brothers discovered coal on the upper reaches of the Burrum River.

The first Howard Country Market for the year is on this Saturday 5th February 2022 between 7am – midday.
All sites are fully booked, but we are currently taking a waiting list in case of cancellations. We have lots of new stalls this month and, as usual, a great variety of items for sale.
Stallholders, please check our page or check our answering machine if you have concerns regarding the weather. You can also check the BOM site for forecasts (although these can change hourly). We refer all stall holders to their terms and conditions which clearly states WE DO NOT CONTACT STALL HOLDERS INDIVIDUALLY IF WE HAVE TO CANCEL A MARKET - this is physically impossible to do. Likewise customers also need to check this page or our answering machine.
Likewise, for Covid updates, please check www.qld.gov.au for all current Covid restrictions.
Please note Covid restrictions are in place. No public seating is available. QR codes for check in are in numerous spots all around the market for customers' convenience.

The pop-up Covid Vaccination Clinic will be in the Community Centre Hall once again at our next market on Saturday 4th December from 8am till 12noon. The southern borders are now open and Queensland will be re-opening its borders before long. It is important to bear in mind that not only will we have an influx of people who may have been in Covid hot spots visiting our area but restrictions will be placed on people who have not been double vaxed in due course. This could seriously impact your social and family life.
We are not weighing in on any debate about vaccinations but do urge everybody who has not had their vaccination to seriously consider taking advantage of this clinic in Howard. We cannot afford to be complacent because we have been so fortunate to have been living in such a Covid free area for so long. Many other places in Australia and overseas have not been so lucky. Please don’t wait until it is too late – the consequences could be fatal.

We are not weighing in on any debate about vaccinations but do urge everybody who has not had their vaccination to seriously consider taking advantage of this clinic in Howard this week. We cannot afford to be complacent because we have been so fortunate to have been living in such a Covid free area for so long. Many other places in Australia and overseas have not been so lucky. The Howard Country Markets are on again this Saturday 6th November from 7am – midday. Once again, we are fully booked, but are taking a waiting list in case of cancellations. Please note the deadline for cancellations is 2pm this Thursday.
Once again, we have an awesome array of stalls, come on down and check them out.
The weather forecast looks good – don’t forget to visit our wonderful retail shops while here in Howard. The Grand Hotel is open for delicious lunches, we have (in our opinion) the best butcher and baker, great milk bar, chemist, Serenity Hairdressing & IGA. Have a browse in the real estate agents window, step back in time with a visit to Van Cootens drapery and grocery, or for something a little different, visit My Magickal Mess.

What a great market day it turned out to be on Saturday!
The winners of the stall holders raffle were - Debbie, who won 1st prize (and it was her birthday too!), Robin won 2nd prize and Trish won 3rd prize. James was the lucky stall holder who won back his site fee.
Thanks everyone for supporting the Howard Community Centre.

The Howard Country Markets are on again this Saturday 2nd October from 7am – midday. Once again, we are fully booked, but are taking a waiting list in case of cancellations. Please note the deadline for cancellations is 2pm this Thursday.
It looks like we may be in for some (much needed) rain this week so stallholders, please check your terms and conditions as it is up to you to be weather resilient. The integrity of the markets is paramount to its success, not only for stallholders themselves, but for our many visitors who come from far and wide! We are currently averaging over 10,000 visitors at every market!
If you are in doubt about the weather, you may wish to cancel your booking (before the cut-off time) as penalties occur for any stallholder who makes a late cancellation or does not show up. This also deprives a stall holder on the waiting list of the opportunity to attend the market.
The only time the Management Committee cancels the markets is if the field becomes too wet and damage may occur from vehicles driving on it. We have a duty of care to Council to act in a responsible manner concerning the field. This is why, in the unlikely event of the cancellation of the markets, the field is barricaded off.
We will update our page if there are any changes, and we also update our answer machine, telephone number 4129 0996.
Every month we are amazed at the number of new stallholders wanting to come to our markets, so we guarantee there are new exciting stalls every month, as well as our wonderful permanent stalls.
While you are here, don’t forget to have a wander around our local Howard shops and enjoy everything Howard has to offer.
