When was the last time you were aboard the Lady Denman Ferry?

Was it when the vessel plied Sydney Harbour or travelled the Lane Cove River? Was it when you were a child visiting the Museum on a school excursion? Or was it last week?

Built in 1911 by Joseph Dent on the shores of Currambene Creek in Huskisson, the Lady Denman Ferry is the last remaining example of the double-ended screw-propelled ferries designed by naval architect, Walter Reeks.

You can now climb aboard and explore underneath the ferry everyday between 10am-4pm at the Jervis Bay Maritime Museum (admission fees apply).

Happy International Women's Day!
Today, the Museum celebrates the determination, courage and spirit of discovery of the first woman to sail solo around the world, Kay Cottee AO.

In 1988 in her 37 feet yacht, Blackmores First Lady, Cottee completed the feat in 189 days. Later that year in December, she officially opened the Jervis Bay Maritime Museum's Science and the Sea wing.

It' SeaWeek Australia! A week to focus community awareness, provide information and encourage an appreciation of the sea.

Here in Jervis Bay, we are lucky to have a pristine marine park - an environment that is home to many unique creatures. Our current exhibition, A Fragile Ecosystem, is a small display of underwater photography by local diver, Rod Sleath . It gives a glimpse of the incredible life that dwells beneath the surface.

IMAGE: Cuttlefish are extraordinary creatures. Depending on the species, they can grow from 15-50cm long. They can change colour to match their environment or to communicate and can even change the texture of its skin. They can move very fast and have three hearts!

You can see "...Here between the hither and the farther shore..." in the Halloran Contemporary Art Prize Finalists' exhibition now on at the Jervis Bay Maritime Museum until 27th April. Museum entry costs apply.
