iluka is a restful holiday house on the Mornington Peninsula, just over an hour from Melbourne.

This 70s beach house has plenty of accommodation for a weekend away with the girls or a longer break with the family

We’ve spent Christmas at iluka and it’s been the BEST. Family time, lazy lunches, drinks on the deck, walks on the beach, naps, sleep ins and lots of good food. We’re soaking up every moment.

We were walking on the beach this morning rugged up against the icy wind and sweeping showers … and then we spotted this very brave soul.

We absolutely love our new driveway with granitic sand and old railway sleepers made from ironbark.

We’ve spend the day gardening, and pruning and planting …. And it feels so satisfying.

And now we’re on the couch with a glass of wine … and that feels pretty good too!

We have a glorious apricot tree in the back yard and at this time of year it’s loaded.

And the apricots are hands down the BEST we have ever tasted.

Just picked and warmed by the sun, their flesh is tender and sweet and … well … just so apricotty!

They’re beautiful in a crumble or cobbler, apricot pie [with ice cream], or simmered gently with a vanilla bean and eaten for breakfast with a dollop of yoghurt.

What a bonus for our summer guests 🧡🍑

We had family friends for lunch today and it was wonderful to sit, eat and chat.

We’ve had countless holidays at the beach. Not ritzy resort holidays; but simple family times under the beach umbrella, and Mum’s home made ham & salad rolls from the esky.

Salty hair. Sandy toes. Freckles. And fish n chips for dinner.

We raided the family photo albums (remember those?) and picked some of our favourite photos over the years. We framed them and they’re hanging in the hallway at iluka.

So many happy memories.

Our most recent guests left us the most beautiful review. We actually cried reading it.

Michaela and Ben spent the weekend at iluka on their babymoon.

They lounged on the back deck in the sunshine, played board games on the dining table, napped in the afternoon and just chilled out.

It was a pleasure hosting you both and thank you for your kind words:

We enjoyed the most beautiful beach day today. It was one of those sparkling, blue sky days that’ll stay with us for a long time.

We had a family picnic under a shady tree right on the foreshore. We walked on the beach and paddled in the water. We chatted about beach picnics we had when we were growing up.

It was exactly what we needed after 263 days in lockdown.

What a way to celebrate freedom and appreciate family and being together. Truly a precious day.
