We would like to invite you to this interesting event, organised by the University of Melbourne, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), Centre College Kentucky and the Goethe-Institut Melbourne.

In conversation with German actress and director Esther Zimmering to discuss her directorial debut, “Swimmingpool am Golan” (2018).

Thursday 3 December 2020
8:00pm AEDT
Via Zoom

Swimmingpool am Golan covers three generations of German- Jewish life in Germany, the GDR and Israel. Using archive footage, photos and interviews, Esther Zimmering uncovers the secrets and inconsistencies in her family's history. A history that saw her grandmother Lizzi and her cousin, great-aunt Lore, being the only ones to survive the Holocaust and who lived the rest of their lives in Israel. Since the Fall of the Wall, Esther has been going back to visit her family in Israel to explore the meaning of Jewishness and socialist ideals, and how to reconcile all of this with her own life.

The documentary is available for online streaming on 1 & 2 December 2020.

People who have registered will receive the streaming link and the zoom link for the conversation on Monday, 30 November 2020.
