We are very excited to welcome Claire Bennett on board the Holy Yak Adventures team!

Claire is the co-author of the book 'Learning Service', an approach to volunteer travel which puts the emphasis on learning from local people. She has a wealth of knowledge in the tourism industry with a focus on culturally immersive experiential travel. Her background is in socially responsible and sustainable tourism.

Claire assisted the Victorian Government, Australia, in writing 'Ethical & Responsible Student Travel' and has lectured around the globe such as Princeton, Cambridge and Warwick Universities. She has been invited to speak at the Center for Responsible Tourism conference in 2019 in Washington DC and Student Activism Conference in Hong Kong.

A trip with Claire is educational, fun, and eye-opening.

So in a nutshell, she is amazing and loves adventures and the great outdoors and we are chuffed to have her on board!!

Yesterday was the start of official rice planting which is marked by a special ceremony countrywide.
What you see in these photos is another festival for the gods praying for rain.
It is called Boto Jatra. This chariot is built every year and paraded around the city in a month-long festival. It started more than a thousand years ago when there was a big drought in Kathmandu and the tradition has continued every year.

Perched on top of a hill, Swoyambhunath Temple stands prominently in the skyline and looks over the Kathmandu Valley.
The weather has been perfect over the winter with stunning views of the hills and the mountains beyond.

Royal Enfield One Ride which is held annually worldwide.
Got news that Australia had just finished theirs when ours started in Kathmandu, Nepal.
We went to visit a rural school in one of the hills (or mountains to most other countries 😁) that surround Kathmandu. Sports and music equipments and other materials were donated.
It was a fun day hanging out with fellow riders and I'm sure a memorable one for kids and the whole village to have a hundred bikes rocking up in the morning.

Very excited to announce our Himalayan motorbike tour from 1 April to 14 April 2023!

We will be riding on a Royal Enfield in the Himalayas with the third highest peak, Mt Kanchenjunga, as the backdrop.

We are a Melbourne based company with deep ties to the Himalayas. This route will cover Sikkim and Darjeeling, our local stomping ground, so you can expect to go to places where no others do.

We visited Noryang Tibetan Restaurant after a big morning hike.
We were greeted with the smiling faces of the owner, Lobsang and her 18 year old assistant, Karina, a uni student with aspirations to become either a journalist or join the tourism industry one day.
We ordered shufaley (Tibetan bread) and omlette which was served with tea. We had heard about the amazing food here and were not disappointed!
Highly recommended! 👌🏽

After a few years that was, I have come back HOME to reconnect with family, friends and the land I grew up in.

The photos are taken at Petrichor Farm at Gorubathan which is situated at the foothills of the Himalayas run by my dear friend, Sweta. It is a great place to relax and unwind in a tranquil setting. If you are interested, she holds various workshops related to plant medicine, sustainable farming and living in & as her motto goes.

I will post more photos of my experiences in the coming days which I hope you will enjoy.
