Our recent tour ended with the incredible Kholey Dai Harvest Music Festival held in a little Nepali hamlet in Kalimpong bordering Bhutan.
Our days were filled with workshops on topics such as permaculture, indigenous cooking and traditional arts and crafts, while the evenings were for eating delicious local fare and dancing the night away to acclaimed musicians from the region.
The whole affair was organised by inspiring young people from the local area and beyond, with the aim of preserving the unique culture and farming methods of the area. The festival aimed to be completely zero waste and plastic free to ensure the surrounding natural environment remained untouched.

We are very excited to welcome Claire Bennett on board the Holy Yak Adventures team!

Claire is the co-author of the book 'Learning Service', an approach to volunteer travel which puts the emphasis on learning from local people. She has a wealth of knowledge in the tourism industry with a focus on culturally immersive experiential travel. Her background is in socially responsible and sustainable tourism.

Claire assisted the Victorian Government, Australia, in writing 'Ethical & Responsible Student Travel' and has lectured around the globe such as Princeton, Cambridge and Warwick Universities. She has been invited to speak at the Center for Responsible Tourism conference in 2019 in Washington DC and Student Activism Conference in Hong Kong.

A trip with Claire is educational, fun, and eye-opening.

So in a nutshell, she is amazing and loves adventures and the great outdoors and we are chuffed to have her on board!!

Yesterday was the start of official rice planting which is marked by a special ceremony countrywide.
What you see in these photos is another festival for the gods praying for rain.
It is called Boto Jatra. This chariot is built every year and paraded around the city in a month-long festival. It started more than a thousand years ago when there was a big drought in Kathmandu and the tradition has continued every year.
