Looking forward to another great year of empowering young people to self assess and mitigate risk. Also, riding bikes is fun.

I often get asked as a Director of Outdoor Education how do you go about selecting, screening and then employing the best third-party provider to work alongside you & within your school Outdoor Education programs.
My response is simple:

I've been extremely lucky to work closely with Cycling Unlimited and Rik Symes over the past 15 years.

It’s not often you meet someone as determined at Ruth Galea. Real courage isn’t lack of fear, it’s going ahead despite the fear. Some years and 70+kg ago, someone laughed at Ruth for sharing her dream of completing a triathlon. Today she picked up the last of the three skills required and I have zero doubt she’ll fulfil that dream.

Our two kids both came into the lesson with 0 bike riding ability. Rik undid all our bad teaching in a matter of minutes, and had them riding within the first lesson.

They are now both loving riding, and excited for the next spin”.

I’m convinced. Maja just had about the most productive lesson of all time. Luckily the hour was up just as I was running out of challenges for her to smash.

Mubarak arrived from Kuwait to study medicine at a less than ideal time. Thinking he’d make good use of some downtime, he came over and learned to ride a bike this morning, even describing it as “not the worst thing I’ve ever done”. Gratifying.

Sharing in the warm, glowing warming glow of Peter’s first ever bike rides. Outstanding effort.

And just like that, we’re into the school year! Woohoo!
