Interesting south coast facts !

Are you ready for this jelly? 🐌

They might look like jelly, but these clear sacs that wash up along Australia's beaches are not jellyfish. They're actually the egg sacs of predatory sand snails called moon snails (family Naticidae).

If you look closely, you can see thousands of tiny eggs suspended in each sac.

A female moon snail will lay her eggs in this jelly-like material that absorbs water, swelling to three to five times the size of the snail who laid them.

The whole jelly mass breaks down as the eggs hatch and the larvae head out to sea to drift wherever the current takes them.

If you spot one, leave the baby snails alone. Don't squish or handle the sac as they are very fragile.

Incredible day and incredible results for our Wharf to Wharf Challenge. Lucas dropped in from Sydney and was first across the line, smashing the 27km trail in a time of 2 hours and 5 minutes.
