New art day! Completed about a week ago. We took this new design for its first outing on the weekend to the farmers market at Lake Wendouree and now, Iโd like to unveil it here on social media - the Powerful Owl. ๐ฆ
I chose this particular bird because โฆ I just bloody love them. I first saw one when I was about 14. I was mucking around on a sandy riverbank in the Wimmera with my friend when I saw something out of the corner of my eye that instantly grabbed my attention - at first it looked like a man with huge yellow eyes sitting on a low branch of a gumtree staring at me. It gave me the fright of a lifetime but it didnโt take long for us to realise it was a bird; a juvenile powerful owl as it turned out. We thought it was a man because it was that big, and its unnerving eyes were the size of saucers. Not the kind of thing you forget.
A fun fact about the powerful owl: they love to eat possums and apparently, they tend to swallow every part of the possum including the head. Because they are unable to digest the skull, they regurgitate it and leave on the ground under their tree. ๐ Creepy but cool! ๐
Back to the topic: I drew it on my iPad, but donโt worry, despite being digital it was all drawn by hand, every single stroke, absolutely no AI. I tried to lean into the Art Nouveau style a bit more with this design: more curves, more dreaminess, and less symmetry. I hope you like it. ๐
Drop by the website (link in bio) and take a look, weโve got postcards and prints available - tea towels will be up in a couple of weeks. Donโt hesitate to comment or drop us an email if you feel the urge: I love to hear feedback or ideas for products or designs, itโs just lovely to know there are people out there enjoying the artwork!

So stoked to have the stickers of these moth drawings a made and up for sale. Theyโll make great little extras for Christmas, theyโre super-hip and quirky! Theyโre available now on our website and at . Descriptions below โฌ๏ธ
1. Ghost moths are common all over Australia and mysteriously appear before thunderstorms in summer. Theyโre huge - with wingspans ranging from 10 to 18 centimeters - making them one of the largest moths in Australia. Despite their ghostly appearance, they are important pollinators, helping to maintain the health of the forest ecosystem. With this matte sticker, you can take a beautiful and otherwordly ghost moth with you wherever you go.
2. Old lady moths are found throughout Australia, and are known to enjoy hanging out in garden sheds. Their voluptuous velvety wings span from 4 to 10 centimetres, and theyโre easily recognized by their mottled brown and grey colour that shimmers with blue and green. Despite their weird name, old lady moths are beautiful and crucial to the environment, as their larvae help to control vegetation growth and provide food for other wildlife. With this matte sticker, you can take a gorgeous old lady moth with you wherever you go.
3. Currawongs are common throughout Australia and are known for their intelligence and their mesmerising and beautiful call, โCuddler-cuddler-kwoo-kwoo!โ Their glossy black feathers are highlighted by white patches on their wings and tail, and a distinctive yellow eye that adds to their striking appearance. With this matte sticker, you can carry an intelligent and lovely currawong with you wherever you go.

Love 'em or hate 'em, Ballaratโs swans at Lake Wendouree are a Ballarat icon and star. ๐๐ฆข๐คโญ๏ธ You gotta admit they're gorgeous, elegant, and sassy. Jarrod's new illustration is available now on greeting cards, postcards, prints, and t-shirts. Our greeting cards and postcards are 100% Ballarat created - from the illustration by Ballarat artist Jarrod Hall, to the printing in Ballarat by @sovereignpress
After Jarrod's black cockatoo drawing, people were asking for a swan. Jarrod's earliest, and most enduring memory of Ballarat is being attacked by a swan as it tried to steal his sandwich during a winter picnic by the Lake in a frigid gale when he was 4 years old. ๐คฃ๐ โ๏ธ
Postcard and greeting card value packs are available on our store or you can buy single cards from @theballaratimaginarium and @visitballarat ๐๐ฆข๐ค

It was in South Korea 12 years ago that we first discovered and fully understood what slow travel is and how wonderful it can be. It was then that we were inspired to create a film Jeju: A Slow Travel Adventure that was featured in the Bicycle Film Festival and the Korea Expat Film Festival. Since then, we've been hooked!
Slow travel is a kind of way to enjoy travel more - by slowing down and soaking up beautiful scenery, talking to locals, exploring the culture/art of a place and embracing the serendipity of what happens when you don't rush off to the next place in a car.

2020 will forever be known as a year of change. A year where some of you lost your jobs, your children's education disrupted, your social lives were halted and to top it off we were all forced to stay in your homes and seek out new entertainment while we sit out a pandemic.
The teams from Tales From Rat City and Retro Events & Marketing have watched and suffered alongside their peers, friends and fellow artists. We wept with you when you lost your jobs and your income drastically changed. We struggled too.
We banged our heads together, and, with our talented friends in mind, we focused on what we could do.
โLove, Ballaratโ is an online project focusing on some of the best, unheard and stories of our little historic town Ballarat and the talented people that reside here, made with love.
โLove, Ballaratโ is a 30 minute online live historical stream, launching on Global Love Day, Friday May 1st.
Global Love Day was created to bring unconditional love back to the world. And we wanted to share some of our love with you.
โLove, Ballaratโ will feature hosts with key knowledge of past pandemics in Ballarat, the Eureka story, female Bushrangers, notable women of the goldfields, mine disasters and much more in a 30 minute hot take with a live Q & A afterwards. โLove, Ballaratโ aims to tell true and accurate representations and will definitely push boundaries.
โLove, Ballaratโ will be live streamed and available for educational institutions to use for teaching purposes.
Our first episode challenges our ideas of love and relates to our current situation. Our host talks about past pandemics in Ballarat and the resilience of our ancestors who lived through them.
We invite you to reconnect with us weekly and support our local arts community.
