Indeed a costlier ($3,910) mistake that one of our clients did, lodging their own s485 VISA and submitting the wrong documents. Its easier said than done, the opportunity cost they paid to do their own VISA is $3910 over the agent's fee about $1000. The DHA didn't even requested for further documents, they don't give room for the smallest mistake in issuing the outcome of your application.

Update on Student VISA Processing:

The Australian Government has announced a new Ministerial Direction (MD111) to direct processing priorities for student visa applications. MD111 replaces the previous Ministerial Direction (MD107), removing the reliance on Evidence Levels (EL's)and is effective from, 19 December 2024.

HOW IT WORKS

The Ministerial Direction (MD111) will apply to student visa applications that are lodged from offshore and have not been finalised. There will be two priorities.

Priority One (High):
Offshore Student visa applications in the higher education and vocational education and training sector, sectors for providers that have not reached their prioritisation threshold in PRISMS. This threshold is 80 per cent of the 2025 indicative allocation of new overseas student commencements as recorded in PRISMS.

Applications submitted from students in a range of identified categories that are exempted from inclusion in the development of indicative allocations including non-award programs, standalone ELICOS, schools, postgraduate research and TAFE students and students from the Pacific and Timor-Leste.

Priority Two (Standard) :
This is the standard arrangements with no priority afforded and will apply to providers that have reached their prioritisation threshold (80% of their 2025 indicative allocation), subsequent entrants and any other offshore student visa applications (i.e. made in association with a student visa holder who is dependent on the visa holder (unless a minor)).

NOTE:
1. Even though the International Studnet Cap didn't passed the Parliament, the Government of the day is controlling with this Ministerial Direction. You should check the indicative thresholds provided to universities and colleges to see which priority processing category will you be in when you apply to a college or university.
2. The subsequent VISA (unless for minor) will be taking much longer that what we have been seeing past few years. So, we suggest you to lodge your VISAs together than to wait for your partner to get their VISAs.
