Princess Cruise's have announced plans to redeploy the biggest cruise ship to be ever based in Western Australia from May 1, 2020. Sapphire Princess, a 2,670-guest capacity ship, will arrive six months earlier than planned in Perth (Fremantle) to commence a 117 day deployment.

They have added more Western Australian cruises than ever before with 27 new voyages to and from Perth (Fremantle), injecting close to $42 million dollars into the state’s economy.

Sapphire Princess will arrive into Perth (Fremantle) on May 1, following a multi-million dollar refurbishment and will receive the new MedallionNet feature offering guests the best Wi-Fi at sea. Fez is a gem of a city and becoming increasingly popular with visitors from all over the world . From its architecture to its culture this imperial city is a must visit when in Morocco. Here’s five facts about the city that you may not know.

1. A UNESCO World Heritage Listed Site.

Fez is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site and with one of the most intact and impressive medieval cities in the Arab world, a visit to Fez is like stepping back in time. The medina is rich in history and buzzing with life as locals go about their day and visitors explore its wonders.

2. No cars allowed!

The Fez medina is one of the largest car-free urban areas in the world. That’s right, no motorised vehicles are permitted in the medina, and quite frankly wouldn’t fit through its narrow streets and alleyways! Walking through the medina transports you to another time as locals guide donkeys through the streets loaded with goods.

3. Tanneries dating back almost 1,000 years.

Fez has been producing quality leather goods for years and is home to ancient tanneries. The largest of the tanneries, and the most popular, is Chouara which has been operating since the 16th century. Viewable via surrounding balconies, the tannery is a vibrant mix of colour and smell with its positioning in the Fez medina a popular destination for visitors. Here, the local workmen use a tanning process that dates back to medieval times to dye the leather a range of different colours. Perhaps the most notable memory you’ll take with you from a visit to one of Fez's tanneries is the unique (and strong) smell of the leather!

4. The eldest of the imperial cities.

Morocco is home to four imperial cities that have all been the country’s capital at some stage throughout its history. Founded between 789 and 808, Fez is the oldest of the cities and has played a significant role as Morocco’s capital throughout different dynasties. The influence of the different dynasties is evident throughout the city today.

5. Fountains galore!

About 60 public fountains are dotted around the medina that once supplied fresh water to the locals. The fountains were positioned near mosque and hammams and were adorned with patterned tiles. Today, majority of the fountains have been turned off however their brightly coloured tiles are still alive with colour. The fountains also serve as a meeting point within neighbourhoods.
