I wanted to share a bit about my journey and passion for op shopping. After moving from South Africa to Australia in 2001, I discovered the wonderful world of op shops and quickly fell in love with hunting for clothes and useful items. In 2010, I became a single mother, and these shops became invaluable for furnishing my home and providing toys and clothes for my children.
As my kids grew, I enjoyed redecorating my home with unique and cozy pieces found in op shops. With a background in arts and crafts, I began upcycling furniture and dรฉcor, creating a space that truly reflected my personality. This passion led me to take on commission work refurbishing furniture.
During the COVID-19 lockdowns, I found solace online and rediscovered a deep nostalgia for the toys and pop culture of the '80s and '90s, particularly My Little Pony. I started collecting ponies, sourcing them from eBay, Marketplace, and connecting with the active collectors' community in Perth and across Australia. To fund my growing collection, I began buying lots of ponies, keeping my favorites, and selling the rest on eBay. This venture opened up an international audience and was both fun and rewarding.
Over the years, I've expanded my knowledge to include collectible toys, pop culture items, vintage clothing, and homewares. My experience working in a small local business has honed my skills in connecting with people, and I am passionate about helping others succeed. I love showcasing what our local area has to offer and am always eager to learn more.
I'm now at a point where I want to connect with others, facilitate connections, and share my love of sustainability and reuse. I'm eager to share my knowledge of upcycling and my thrifty nature with like-minded individuals.
Although I typically prioritize comfort over fashion, I've come to appreciate clothing as a means of self-expression. I'm fascinated by current and past trends, and how pop culture influences fashion. It's intriguing to observe how societal shifts and media can shape the way we dress and express ourselves.
Looking forward to sharing more thrifting adventures with all of you!
