Another great place for those interested in Cretes history is the Heraklion Archaeological Museum with lots of items some up to 8000 years old

A more interesting historical site in Crete is Malia Palace dating from around 1650BC and on the day we arrived entry was free as it was a holiday

Knossos is a famous palace complex built around 1900BC in Crete and whilst the scale of the complex is impressive some of the restoration done by the archaeologist Arthur Evans is a little excessive

Our food tour host Sofia gave us some great tips for places to eat in and around Chania and one of them was this fantastic family restaurant in Fres where the hosts were so friendly and welcoming
