A Peaceful Escape

After a whirlwind adventure in South Australia, we journeyed north 4 hours through part of the ' Riverland ' region. Then over the border and our first stop Mildura.
Majority of the country side is very dry, except the a greenery of the vineyards and bush shrubs.
We free camped a few days in Merbein a few minutes drive outside of Mildura on the beautiful Murray River. Watched boats and expensive house boats go past, kids catching carp and feeding the bird life.
Meet some lovely people, Chris, Joan and Rod. Paddled around in our canoe on still waters and watched the world go by was pure bliss.
Got bitten by a nasty bull ant that was not fun.
We continued our journey to Swan Hill, and as soon as we were over the border and on the side of a country road, we definitely knew we were in Victoria..... " 2 speed cameras" and also pulled over for breatho at 10am.
Stayed at the Big 4 Riverside, we had a great view of Murray River.
Then we headed into Echuca and pulled up at our fav caravan park, Tasman Meroole and again on the Murray River.
It's hot and dry. The weather has been great and lots of swimming. Hung out with our friends Jules & Juzz.
After a few days headed to our last stop Yarrawonga, and checked out our home sit.

Tip..Did you know the Murray River is 362 kilometres long!

Enjoy our pics and we now home bound to our family and can't wait for more cuddles with our gran babies.

From Barossa to the Beach: A Fleurieu Peninsula Adventure - Day 254.
After a wine-filled time in the Barossa, we headed south to the stunning Fleurieu Peninsula.
Coastal Bliss: "Coast to the Vines,"
• We kicked off our coastal adventure in Christies Beach, enjoying the pristine beaches and watching the nippers surf at Silver Sand Beach. Stayed at a great park on the beach.
• A day trip to McLaren Vale was a wine lover's dream, with its charming town, wineries, and found a great bakery!
City Escape:
• We headed north to Adelaide, stayed a few days at West Beach Caravan Park. One of the best parks we have stayed at. Great for kids! Close to the CBD and Airport. We soaked up the sun at Glenelg Beach, a beautiful coastal spot with soft sand, volley ball nets, and a great vibe. Long walks on the beach and stunning sunsets.
• We explored the many beaches and the city, visited the beautiful Botanical Gardens, and Rundel Mall, it is a mini Bourke Street. Visited the Casino and we loved happy Hour!
• Craig had a great day with his mate Dave at the Cricket 🏏 If you ever get the chance to see the cricket at Adelaide Oval, they do put on an event!
A Perfect Getaway: The Fleurieu Peninsula and Adelaide offer the perfect blend of coastal beauty, cultural experiences, and delicious food.
Adelaide you have surprised us, we are very impressed. Next visit we will explore the Adelaide Hills.
Enjoy our snaps 📸

Still in SA!
Packed up the tin can and headed to the York Peninsula SA or 'The Copper Coast' known for copper mining. The area is known for barley, wheat, grains, and seeds, one of the biggest suppliers to the state of SA.
We visited the 3 towns classified as the Copper Triangle.
1. We camped at Wallaroo.
We welcomed the rain after the heat.
A seaside town with cute miners cottages. Cornish miners and Welsh smelters migrated to the area to mine copper, hence the little cottages and small doorways..."Australia's little Cornwall."
Huge prawn trailers dominate the Marina.
Wallaroo is in the top 10 of Australian locations for people to retire to - pick up a beautiful waterfront home & your own mooring under 1 Mil.
* 7 pubs for only a few thousand people and
a pub for each day of the week.🍷🥃
A drive on the beach and a look at the street art, a drink at the local pub, walk on the jetty, Craig could live here.

2. A day trip to Moonta, famous for the Cornish pasties, and stopped at Port Hughes-
Beautiful beaches, friendly people, and a good vibe.

3. Stayed overnight at the Kadina- Showgrounds. Our 1st showground overnighter.
We have one of the best pub Sunday roast dinners on the road.
The York Peninsula is pretty special.
Need more time in this area.
This area will be another revisit, good food, wine, sightseeing, and the vibe!
Here are some snaps 📸

Day 241 ! And over the SA border and into Ceduna, what a great little seaside spot although pretty windy! Felt like the flying nun.
In terms of the amenities, one of the best caravan parks we have stayed in.
If you are coming this way, come for the OysterFest in October! Ceduna is known to be the oysters capital of Australia.
We watched the 'Tyson Exhibition!' fight at the local pub and enjoyed the company of some truckies. Great blokes!
After 2 days, we headed to
Streaky Bay and stayed in an RV Rest Stop.
Pristine waters again ! And we did 2 coastal scenic drives, note - majority are on unsealed roads, and this is not communicated on line /print.
The drives showed us the rugged coast line, sea lions habitat, which is the biggest in Australia, played in the white sand dunes, and visited a number of beaches and lookouts.
You love fishing, you will love these places and oysters are $10 a dozen!

These 2 seaside towns are also part of the Australia Bight, truely stunning cliff faces and full of history.
You must only leave 👣 footprints.

We enjoyed our time, check out the pics 📸 and we now head off to Port Augusta SA.

A beautiful day on the SA coast, and captured sea lions having a lazy day !

The Nullabor..
Before we hit the road and a big few days ahead of us, the checklist - extra petrol (although longest between stops is 191km but just incase) and plenty of water and food ✅️
Oops & Alcohol refreshments....✅️
The flies do not know anything about personal space & boundaries! They enter every facial or***ce.
We hit the red dust again on route to Norseman WA.
A Gold mining town and has the world's longest golf course.
Apparently, an unbelievable 1,365 kilometres long, with a hole at each town or roadhouse along the way, spread across two states and two time zones, it starts at Kalgoorie. here is a challenge for you!

Stopped for lunch ...hung a right turn- onto Eyre Highway and on to the Nullabor. The longest, straightest, flattest road in Australia.
3 days before we hit South Australia. It's part of the Great Australia Bight.
Did you know Nullabor means no trees in Latin ! Although plenty of scrub & bushes. A Rugged coastline, white sand dunes and plenty of freight trucks.
Over night we camped in Newman's Rocks camp site, Craig enjoyed his fire and singing to the stars!
*Day 2 On the road and a stop at Balladonia Roadhouse, took a snap of the US Skylab space station parts that fell in this location.
Camped at Moondini Bluff Camp Ground.
RFDS takes over parts of the road for emergency landing strips too.
There is 90 mile road ( a stretch of road that is completely straight. ) Signs mark the beginning and end.

*Day 3 We then headed across the SA border. Ditched the fruit & veg although the station was not manned. The checkpoint was just before Ceduna. Checked out the Great Aust Bight - coastline. Spotted a 4WD smashed up and rolled on its roof, it brought us back to reality.
We went through 2 time zones and it plays with your body clock.
The famous Bunda Cliffs were closed due to severe erosion. The Bight was a spectacular scenery.
Camped over night, Kidnippy Road Stop, far west Coast of South Australia.
The roads are really good. Although very windy and fuel consumption is not great. We started with a full tank and across the Nullabor, we had 5 petrol stops and a jerry can. If you are planning this trip 1 rule ...plan plan plan !!! & a UHF radio, even if you are not towing anything!
Into Ceduna now.
Enjoy the pics! 📸

We packed up our tin can day 233, booked the car windscreen in to be replaced and headed to Esperence WA - Located SE of Perth.
Esperence & The Fitzgerald coast is part of the Golden Outback, wheat belt. Miles of wheat farms. We stayed In a park near the Port. Watched the ships come in and fill up with grain.
Esperence beauty is mesmerising, breath taking coastal scenery.
Esperence has it all, - National parks, stunning beaches, wild flowers bloom all year round and animals.
A quick recap of our time -
# The town is was named after a French ship, the “Espérance”. There is also plenty to do in the natural wonders of Cape Le Grand, Wharton Bay & The Great Ocean Drive, a 40km loop with exquisite coastline, beaches, lookouts and includes the Pink Lake (no longer a pink lake!)
# The most spectacular landscapes in Western Australia. It includes over 500km of coastline and spectacular cliffs of the Great Australian Bight. The ocean is bright turquoise, a blue so pure it looks manufactured. Check out the pics!
# Over 100 islands off the coast, called The Recherche Archipelago, It's like they are sitting there watching over the main island.
# We checked out Twilight Beach with it's iconic ‘rock with a hole’, Fellow caravanners threw a line in at the town jetty and caught squid. Hinted for a dinner invite, no luck.
# A day trip to Cape Le Grand National Park, the Costal Trail includes- Lucky Bay, Hellfire Bay, Thistle Cove. Lucky bay is famous for kangaroos on the beach and voted in 2023 World's best beach. The sand is so fine and squeaks underfoot. Too hard to play volley ball on, when it's wet, it's like concrete.
If you planning to camp at Cape La Grand and so worth it, book in advance to save tears!
# Our favourite beach has to be Lucky Bay and Wharton Beach, which is located 90km E of Esperance.
# We visited the historical buildings that are part of the Museum Village and stopped at the Lucky Bay Brewery, there is so much to see and do.
Esperence is truely visually captivating.

# You don't second guess why Esperence boasts they have the best beaches in Australia, if not the world! Put Esperence on your bucket list! The clip is full of beach vibes⛱️

A few days in Albany WA, it is part of the Great Southern region. It is the last place our Australian soldiers sighted before heading off to the fateful battleground of World War 1, and the ANZAC battles. Also known as the place the first dawn service was held on ANZAC day.
In addition to this rich history, Albany WA also has a wealth of pristine beaches, extrodinary Cliff faces and balancing granite rocks. We got the opportunity to stand under a wind turbine, and the sounds it makes were amazing.
The most popular attractions are The Gap and Natural Bridge, in Torndirrup National Park, unfortunately it was closed.
We did visit Dog Rock in town, Museum, Anzac memorial and Misery Beach but definitely not a miserable place. A hike to the blow holes, unfortunately a non-event.
We were teased by the Albany oysters, apparently amazing but only available in summer time ! Another non event!
Albany known for great fishing and wineries. We spoke to a few men fishing, they can sure cast a line! If you love fishing this is the spot.
We stayed in a great caravan park in Emu Beach, right on the beach, really relaxing !
This town is like a big history book.
Enjoy our snaps ! 📸

Busselton & Margaret River WA

26/10/2024

Busselton is a busy town on the WA coast and we stayed on the 'Holy Mile,' it gets its name as a number of seaside camp grounds are owned by various church groups. $32 per night and it was fantastic. No drinking or smoking (sure ! to the drinking part, especially so close to Margaret River). We had excellent park managers. Everything was so well maintained.
The jetty is 1.8km long with a marine park. It is the longest in the southern hemisphere. The weather has not been kind to us.
Margaret River was impressive, a quaint town, and a lovely drive through the country side. Over 200 wineries. So green and lush with colourful spring flowers on the side of the road.
We managed 6 wineries, our favs are Voyager Wines due to the stunning gardens and Swings & Rounabouts.
We did a day trip and stopped at Ngilgi Caves. Limestone caves, very tight stairways & chambers- 39 metres deep. Formations of stalactites and stalagmites of extraordinary length and size. Pretty impressive! Let the pics tell the story for this one.
The highlight for this stop was the whale watching tour out of Dunsborough. To see the mother humpback whales and calves playing in the water and a calf breached, it was pretty special. The season will be over soon and we were lucky to see some 🐋 whales.
On our journey we had to buy another battery for the car fridge. That's battery no 4 and we shuffled the tyres around on the van.
If anyone needs tyres for your van or 4WD, we have a great contact in Thomastown. Exceptional value for big muddies or all terrains.

Check out our pics 📸...

Enjoying our time in WA.

After a brief trip to Melb we are back on the road in Perth and it didn’t disappoint. Surrounded by the Swan river it is spectacular.
* Kings Park one of the largest inner city parks in the world. We had an amazing day at the Botanical Gardens.
* The Elizabeth Quay in the CBD, reminds us of our Docklands and in a few more years when 3 developments are completed it will be a preferred city location to live right on the Swan River. We checked out the famous bell tower and the love locks!
* Scarborough ⛱️ beach reminds us of sunshine coast. Fantastic white beaches.
* Cottlesloe lovely beach and full of young people.
* Fremantle architecture we loved, some of WA 's oldest buildings The yatch club had some serious boats stored and on the harbour.
* Craig is celebrating he has now been to every Casino ! In each state...
* A day at Rottnest island. 19km by ferry to the island. And the home of the Quokka!
Bus trip around the island. Amazing crustal blue water and white beaches.
I would advise if you plan to visit the island, stay for a night to soak it all up.
* A great day trip to Swan Valley, the oldest wine region in WA over 40 wineries, 25 mins from Perth, so over whelming we did not know where to start. We did the 32km loop- chocolate, nuts. gin, wine, nougat, rum, lemoncello..If you come to Perth this is a must do!
* We headed south to Herron Point, camped 10metres from the water. Seen a bit of rain. Another day trip to Rockingham, Dawsville, amazng towns by the beach and canal water ways. Could live in either town.
The Perth take aways-
No graffiti, clean city with green parklands and manicured gardens
No tolls but CBD parking $7 an hour!!!
The road system is unreal, easy to get around. To get around the CBD there are free buses.
The beaches are so clean. The Norfolk pines are like ballerinas that line the beaches.
Very laid back and chilled town. People are so friendly.
Enjoy our pics 📸
