A few days in Albany WA, it is part of the Great Southern region. It is the last place our Australian soldiers sighted before heading off to the fateful battleground of World War 1, and the ANZAC battles. Also known as the place the first dawn service was held on ANZAC day.
In addition to this rich history, Albany WA also has a wealth of pristine beaches, extrodinary Cliff faces and balancing granite rocks. We got the opportunity to stand under a wind turbine, and the sounds it makes were amazing.
The most popular attractions are The Gap and Natural Bridge, in Torndirrup National Park, unfortunately it was closed.
We did visit Dog Rock in town, Museum, Anzac memorial and Misery Beach but definitely not a miserable place. A hike to the blow holes, unfortunately a non-event.
We were teased by the Albany oysters, apparently amazing but only available in summer time ! Another non event!
Albany known for great fishing and wineries. We spoke to a few men fishing, they can sure cast a line! If you love fishing this is the spot.
We stayed in a great caravan park in Emu Beach, right on the beach, really relaxing !
This town is like a big history book.
Enjoy our snaps ! 📸

Busselton & Margaret River WA

26/10/2024

Busselton is a busy town on the WA coast and we stayed on the 'Holy Mile,' it gets its name as a number of seaside camp grounds are owned by various church groups. $32 per night and it was fantastic. No drinking or smoking (sure ! to the drinking part, especially so close to Margaret River). We had excellent park managers. Everything was so well maintained.
The jetty is 1.8km long with a marine park. It is the longest in the southern hemisphere. The weather has not been kind to us.
Margaret River was impressive, a quaint town, and a lovely drive through the country side. Over 200 wineries. So green and lush with colourful spring flowers on the side of the road.
We managed 6 wineries, our favs are Voyager Wines due to the stunning gardens and Swings & Rounabouts.
We did a day trip and stopped at Ngilgi Caves. Limestone caves, very tight stairways & chambers- 39 metres deep. Formations of stalactites and stalagmites of extraordinary length and size. Pretty impressive! Let the pics tell the story for this one.
The highlight for this stop was the whale watching tour out of Dunsborough. To see the mother humpback whales and calves playing in the water and a calf breached, it was pretty special. The season will be over soon and we were lucky to see some 🐋 whales.
On our journey we had to buy another battery for the car fridge. That's battery no 4 and we shuffled the tyres around on the van.
If anyone needs tyres for your van or 4WD, we have a great contact in Thomastown. Exceptional value for big muddies or all terrains.

Enjoying our time in WA.

After a brief trip to Melb we are back on the road in Perth and it didn’t disappoint. Surrounded by the Swan river it is spectacular.
* Kings Park one of the largest inner city parks in the world. We had an amazing day at the Botanical Gardens.
* The Elizabeth Quay in the CBD, reminds us of our Docklands and in a few more years when 3 developments are completed it will be a preferred city location to live right on the Swan River. We checked out the famous bell tower and the love locks!
* Scarborough ⛱️ beach reminds us of sunshine coast. Fantastic white beaches.
* Cottlesloe lovely beach and full of young people.
* Fremantle architecture we loved, some of WA 's oldest buildings The yatch club had some serious boats stored and on the harbour.
* Craig is celebrating he has now been to every Casino ! In each state...
* A day at Rottnest island. 19km by ferry to the island. And the home of the Quokka!
Bus trip around the island. Amazing crustal blue water and white beaches.
I would advise if you plan to visit the island, stay for a night to soak it all up.
* A great day trip to Swan Valley, the oldest wine region in WA over 40 wineries, 25 mins from Perth, so over whelming we did not know where to start. We did the 32km loop- chocolate, nuts. gin, wine, nougat, rum, lemoncello..If you come to Perth this is a must do!
* We headed south to Herron Point, camped 10metres from the water. Seen a bit of rain. Another day trip to Rockingham, Dawsville, amazng towns by the beach and canal water ways. Could live in either town.
The Perth take aways-
No graffiti, clean city with green parklands and manicured gardens
No tolls but CBD parking $7 an hour!!!
The road system is unreal, easy to get around. To get around the CBD there are free buses.
The beaches are so clean. The Norfolk pines are like ballerinas that line the beaches.
Very laid back and chilled town. People are so friendly.

Had to share this below image...

7months today on the road, 20,000kms and have not and can not see it all.
We have a beautiful country, full of history, a breath taking coast line, kind people, beautiful fauna and flora.
We live in a special place on the globe.

Take the trip and don't wait until it's too late, we hope we have inspired atleast 1 person to travel Aus.

Day 171, We were surprised to see🍌 banana plantations as we drove into Carnarvon,
80% of Western Australia's total supply of fruit & vegetables and much of the states seafood comes from Carnarvon.
*We visited the Carnarvon Space Museum, very interesting, actually we had too much fun. This station played a role when the first man landed on the moon!.
*The Quobba Blow hole was impressive, ocean water forced through sea caves and rocks. Adjacent is a coral filled lagoon, the locals call it the 'aquarium'. Craig enjoyed snorkling here !
*Some interesting notes-
-Dingo warnings and baiting in place.
-Beautiful wild flowers, WA is home to one of the largest and most spectacular wildflower collections on earth! 12,000 species & 60% are unique to WA. Picking flowers can attract a $2,000 fine!
-Lots of star gazing.
-Fruit loop trail, pick up F&V from local growers.
-Dry river beds or upside rivers, meaning water underneath the beds.
The temp a little cooler now, we had days of 30°.
Two days tops in this place. Has a lot of social issues.
We moved into to Shark Bay, an hour drive off the A1 Highway. A World Heritage area and is impressive, we stayed at Denham and visited Monkey Mia. 3 nights was not enough.
Swimming in glorious beaches but need to be wary of the stone fish and sharks. 28 species of sharks in these waters.
A highlight was the dolphin viewing in the shallows at Monkey Mia, Little Lagoon - white sand, crystal blue water. Did a little stint of 4WD on this beach.
A stop at Shell Beach, only 2 places in the world, a snow white beach and no sand. Only tiny white shells up to 10m deep and 60km long.
Denham has great views of Australia's most westerly sunsets, great walks, sunny weather and sea cool breezes just a lovely place.

We are realising we just can't see it all, in each location.
Enjoy the pics 📸

Day 166, heading down the WA Coral Coast and we loved exploring Coral Bay and Exmouth - on the Ningaloo reef, a World Heritage site and is one of the longest near-shore reefs in the world, also Australia's longest reef with incredible marine life. Pristine beaches, white sand and turquoise water, it's like a painting. We collected some unusual shells & rocks and managed to do some whale 🐋 watching.
Exmouth is rich in military history - world war II. Lots of radars, towers, observatory domes across the landscape.
This impressive communications station is called the Harold E. Holt Naval Communications Station and Radar systems, known for submarine detection throughout the Indian and Pacific Oceans during the war and thereafter.A tower is taller than the Empire State building.
1999 the USA gave full station control and ownership of Exmouth back to Australia ! WoW...
Craig swears they are communicating with the outside world 👽.
🐠 We drift snorkeled at Turquoise Bay in total ⛵️tropical ⛱️coastal paradise 🌴.
The Town Beach, the newly built Marina,
Bundegi Beach, Sandy Bay,
Turquoise Bay, the view from the lighthouse, SS Mildura Ship wreck were outstanding.
Then on to Coral Bay-🪸 for a few days.
We did 4WD through the dunes and on the beach. Coral Bay has some gorgeous beach areas incredible soft sand and the water is like silk on your skin. The water is flat, with few large waves due to the reef. It's glorious to snorkle in.
We love the facts of these places and to top it off we watched the Hawks have a win at the pub. We even had our first sprinkle of rain in over 3 months, only lasted a few minutes but was refreshing. Put these 2 destinations on your bucket list. Enjoy our pics 📸

Two days in 80 Mile beach WA, South Kimberley region.
Despite it's name, its actually 140 miles not 80 miles??? 🤷‍♀️ Lots of gorgeous shells. I got a handful for my collection. Not much to do here, if your not into fishing and bird watching, its time to just chill out.
As we drive into the Pilbara region, the red desert sand and endless blue sky's, just captivates us. The hottest day, reaching over 40 degrees and we did not cope well with no pool.
The Park advised against swimming in the pristine beach due to sea snakes, sharks and stingrays that come into the shallows.
Someone stepped on a ray in the shallow and a barb went through their foot. Again, the sunsets each night did not disappoint.
We moved onto Port Hedland, the mines and trucks are plotted throughout the landcape,
Port Hedland is a mining town - iron ore, salt, manganese, Lithium, and more 40 degree days.
The trains can be over 7 kilometres long. Lucky there is no level crossings.
Awesome to see my Bretty Boy, Shona and Angus and the legend Steve Davy. Thank you for making time to catch up. Feeling very loved.
Day 166, we stopped two days in Dampier, where the red dog movies were made. One of the sunniest places in Australia, 3,700 hours of sunshine.
Second largest bulk port in the world behind Port Hedland. Great Father's Day event at the local park and frozen cocktails at the yatch club were delish!
Enjoy our pics 📸 and check out how beautiful our country is.

Four days on the road free camping, driving over 1,000 kms as we make our way to Broome.
The hightlights were - greeted by cows at Mary Pool and James Price Point Campground wbich was stunning. Camped on a cliff face watching over the beach. Million dollar views but the risk of getting there was worth it. Over 35kms of corrugated, red dirt and soft sand.
Lisa battered and bruised by falling out of the van ! Sober... definitely did not bounce.
