Promoting the talents of bold, authentic, audacious senior executives since 1990. | http://topmargin.com | Connect on Twitter: http://twitter.com/gaylehoward I’m Gayle Howard: Executive Resume Writer, Word Nerd, Mac Geek and Storyteller Extraordinaire! In my high school English class I drove classmates to distraction, as I (forever the procrastinator), scribbled essays in the back of the bus on t
he way to school that consistently scored the highest marks. No surprise then, that I saw writing in my future, and I decided to pursue a career in journalism—an aspiration ruthlessly stomped on by my careers teacher, who painstakingly explained that journalism was an occupation for men! (Remember, this was the unenlightened mid-1970s, when gender-specific roles were still the norm.) I still marvel that I actually accepted that teacher’s “advice,” working for years in administrative roles that really didn’t suit me. But a small voice inside me began to grow louder, and it was urging me to find a more creative outlet. The idea of putting my writing skills to work in my own business came to me just after New Year 1990. Driving home from a holiday with my husband, I declared suddenly: “I’m going to start my own business.” Despite his quizzical look, I did just that and Top Margin was launched in March of 1990 to help job seekers tell their stories to snare the jobs of their dreams. Fast-forward two decades, and you’ll see I’ve found my voice—as a Master Resume Writer, author, career storyteller and winner of numerous resume-writing awards. Most important though, is that I’ve helped 13,000 people find their voices and tell their stories in a way that sets them apart from the crowd. These are stories of determination, tenacity and success; of insurmountable obstacles overcome, and of new approaches to traditional methods that have solved problems and created positive change. In the job search, when facts are told in the form of a story that offers a unique promise of value, employers are compelled to act. So in other words, my resumes succeed because I tell your stories in a way that makes people eager to know more. Allow me to reveal and craft your unique and compelling story now. There is a decision maker just desperate to hear about you.
