(2)

PLACESCORE is a groundbreaking place experience (PX) diagnostic engagement, benchmarking, tracking and marketing business. Our purpose is to make places better for people by providing insights that guide more effective investment. PLACESCORE offers two sophisticated data collection tools to gather and analyse insights - Care Factor and PX Assessment. Together they reveal what people care about and

how a place rates against that benchmark. Attributes with a high Care Factor and low PX score can be considered priorities, while those with both high a Care Factor and high PX can be celebrated. PLACESCORE also allows you to capture return on investment. You can conduct a PX Assessment before and after implementing improvements - like streetscape upgrades, to measure their impact on your community's place experience. Understanding and measuring PX is important because it can be used to direct changes people will value, and measure the positive impact of investment.

Nice plan… pity about the place

We often focus on the government as a key stakeholder in the liveability arena – but developers and asset managers also play a significant role. The challenge is often about getting everyone on the same page.

Some of our most engaging projects are about working through the master-planning stages of new neighbourhoods and sharing insights regarding both the current community as well as future residents. Having access to the country’s largest social research database means that we can pull insights on almost any target audience you need, and help you understand what they value, what is missing and how to best communicate.

Thanks to Place Leaders Asia Pacific for the recent recognition!

The Jury commended Place Score and their ongoing commitment to providing “well-substantiated human-centric data that provides excellent evidence of what communities want and need. Local governments across the country recognise that understanding community values and responding to local priorities leads to better outcomes. However, continuous engagement is expensive and exhausting for all involved.

Place Score’s liveability tools and online platform empower the government to do less engagement, better. Rigorous, representative, repeatable and discipline agnostic, our partners are using the liveability data to align departments, focus investment and communicate more clearly.

Australia is targeting a 10 per cent increase in housing stock across our LGAs. If the right soft and hard infrastructure isn’t in place to support such rapid development, this target has the potential to put immense strain on existing neighbourhoods, and to deliver unliveable new neighbourhoods that may be isolated on cheaper land on the outskirts of cities.

Place Score liveability data reveals that the communities of every neighbourhood see room for improvement – that means that liveability data can be used to not only support design and decision-making but can also provide the foundation for opening transparent dialogue with communities concerned about change.

Where do your engagement results go?

Back in 2019, Place Score asked governments where their invaluable community engagement results ended up… the majority said on the computers of the officers in charge of the project.

No other industry wastes social data the way we do – this leads to excessive cost and engagement fatigue, which in turn undermines our decision-making power.

Place Score’s Liveability Platform is a game changer for so many organisations - across so many departments.

If you are ready to transform the way you do engagement, save resources and maximise the value of your community’s inputs then we would love to share what we do – get a team together and book a presentation here

Liveability is about more than just affordability - it's about creating neighbourhoods that deliver on what is important to our communities - green, walkable, local and well-cared-for places that support social connections. Having an evidence base for more compact neighbourhoods, as well as the measurement tools for understanding the social impact of planning, urban design and management really should be essential.

The Place Score team is proud of our work with our amazing state government, private sector, not-for-profit, and over 50 local governments in the 2023 Australian Liveability Census and thrilled by the diversity of organisations reaching out to work together to achieve improved liveability for everyone, everywhere

Why are walkable, high-amenity neighbourhoods unaffordable to those who most need them?

While walkability is one of our community's most valued neighbourhood attributes, our recent analysis has revealed that high levels of modal choice generally align with low levels of housing affordability and choice.

Those on lower incomes must move further from centres and be more car-dependent - leading to additional social, health, economic and environmental impacts. The 2023 Australian Liveability Census revealed that green, well-maintained, walkable neighbourhoods with diverse housing options are considered some of the most liveable in Australia. We are hoping that the delivery of 1,000,000 new dwellings will use these insights to leave a liveability legacy for all…

Is density a dirty word? Jonathan O’Brien says ‘no way’

“The housing crisis has been at the centre of 2023’s political and placemaking discussions. And at the centre of that discussion lies the question of urban density. Evidence gathered in this area tends to focus on the ways that providing dense, abundant housing around existing infrastructure reduces per capita environmental impact and infrastructure costs, all while increasing productivity and reducing rents.”

Parks are for people …. yet before Park Score, we did not have a consistent measure for understanding the park experience and how it changes once the investment is made.

Working with and Department of Planning and Environment, we were able to fast-track plans for our new park experience assessment tool. We have already delivered reports for over 20 parks across NSW and Victoria – with our first Tasmanian park coming up.

A Park Score assessment is a great engagement tool for the actual users of your park to really dig into what is impacting them positively or negatively to help prioritise investments that will bring the most benefits to your community. Book in your ‘after’ assessment to close the loop and capture the return on your investment!

Get in touch with [email protected], and he will help set you up for success!

Matching parks to the needs of local communities is challenging – especially as demand increases and resources decrease.

If you are looking for a new way to engage with your community to better understand how they are using their local park and what is working, or not, for them - get in touch to talk with us about commissioning a Park Score assessment and report before and after planned work.

Park Score is a great engagement and place measurement tool that helps guide decision-making and also sets the baseline for capturing community benefits.

19/02/2024

We all know that parks are essential to green and social infrastructure that supports environmental and community wellbeing. The urgent question that we, as industry professionals, need to ask now is: how to manage these spaces and keep them alive in front of contemporary demands?

To address challenges such as housing and climate crises, population growth and changes, increasing isolation, and mental health problems, effective urban planning, community engagement, and sustainable management practices are essential. Encouraging collaboration between government bodies, community organisations, and environmental agencies can help develop resilient strategies that balance the needs of urban development with the preservation and accessibility of parks and open spaces for all.

Join Place Score, research partner Grillex, and our line-up of exceptional guest speakers, as we share the findings of our Parks as Places research program. The Webinars will dive into the past, the present and the future to discuss how professionals are meeting community expectations, building solutions for different communities, and planning for the global trends influencing the delivery and management of great parks.

You are invited to join us: if you work in the planning and landscape industry – managing, designing or delivering parks, these events are for you.

Want to turn your road into a main street? Street makeovers don’t need to cost millions to make a difference. In fact, starting small can be a great way to get stakeholders on board – especially if backed by customer data. A great main street is great for people, so having data that reveals the experience of the users of your street – what they like and don’t is an incredibly powerful foundation for activating change
