Don't drink the water!! A report in Travel + Leisure this week, based on a TikTok video from a former flight attendant begins with 'Never drink any liquid that is not in a can or bottle'! She reports that flight attendants never drink the water on a flight because the water tanks are rarely cleaned - they also never drink the tea or coffee. Obviously the quality of the water varies among the airlines! Worth thinking about!

Two helicopters and a submersible for travellers exploring anywhere in the world. These are features of the Scenic Eclipse II and her sister Scenic Eclipse. On Sunday 21 April, we were treated to a walk around. We boarded at Sydney’s White Bay and were greeted with a glass of champagne by the onboard hospitality staff and explanatory videos in the Scenic Lounge....

'Europa 2' was in Sydney this week so we took the opportunity for a visit. We soon discovered that there is every reason why this ship has enjoyed 5-star rating with Berlitz (now Insight).
The cabins epitomise functional design and the many family cabins are inter-connection. Expect superb food and service from the bi-lingual (English/German) staff and an excellent range of activities and services.
We are delighted to have had this opportunity - we can tell you more including details on sailings!

We reached 28 km on Thursday - it is very easy to walk this distance when you spread it out - we walk a great deal. But when we are walking for the Long Walk Home and the Wayside Chapel we think about why we are walking. We are grateful to our walking friend, Meg, with whom we walk weekly and who joined us in the fundraising. We thank everyone who supported the Long Walk Home both financially and encouraged us as we go. This is the fourth year we have joined this walk and we hope we are able to do it for many more years.

Wow! we are very grateful to all our supporters for sponsoring us on the Long Walk Home for the Wayside Chapel this year. We have raised $5470 - far above our target of $2500.
Thank you one and all.
Today we began with a short walk from Coalcliff to Scarborough across the Seacliff bridge. One of us was absent due to illness, but the others enjoyed the sunshine and the amazing scenery along this part of the NSW coast.
7km down - 21 to go.

We are on the Long Walk Home for the fourth year... over a week we walk 28 km to raise money for the Wayside Chapel in Sydney which "provides unconditional love, care, support and essential services for people experiencing homelessness and social isolation in Sydney."

The 'MS Europa' is on her way to Australia. The 'Europa', was rated 12 years in a row “ the best cruise ship in the world” by Berlitz, because of its elegant interior design, high-class facilities and excellent options. She will sail from Melbourne on 7th January to Bali. 'Europa' has in the past been a German speaking ship, but now she will offer bi-lingual cruises at the same time as she drops formal dining....

What a way to explore Japan! We started our journey in Sapporo with a 3 night stay before taking a bus to the port of Otaru to board the 'Heritage Explorer' and begin our exploration of the west coast of Japan. Over the next 13 nights we would visit a new port every day, including crossing the sea to South Korea, before entering the Kanmon straits between Honshu and Kyshu and finishing our journey in Tokyo. ...

Exploring out of the way places in Japan continues with a day in Ulsan in Korea for good measure. Loved Korea - visited the burial mounds in Gyeongju, feasted on a Korean banquet, and learnt much about Buddhism at Bulguksa Temple Fromm very knowledgeable guide.
Enjoyed a tea ceremony, visited samurai castles and a pearl farm, the Torii gate and more on Miyajima... a fantastic expedition on board ‘Heritage Adventurer’ .

Saikamoto and the city of Matsue were our next port of call. we began the day with a walk in the Daisen-Oki National Park with huge trees in the old growth beech forest and little birds calling including a woodpecker(I wasn’t fast enough to get a photo). We climbed many steps to the Buddhist temple - well worth it.
Matsue Castle came next. A 17th century fortress.
Then the Adana Garden and art museum. A unique garden which you don’t enter but view through enormous picture windows!
It was a day of glorious sunshine but the next day in Hagi made up for it - it rained all day as we visited the Akiyoshidai limestone caves, enjoyed a superb sushi lunch in the fish markets, visited a 16th century merchant’s house and garden and the Hagi pottery. Thank goodness for being on a ship - back to your room each evening and wake up in a new location!! Loving it.

Our ship took us to Sado Island on a sunny day. A microcosm of Japan this island is seldom visited by ships as the need to be small.
There is a regular local ferry. We paddled around in coracles before walking along the volcanic foreshore then visiting a local village preserved as it was in medieval times. Some of the group went to a taiko drumming class - we walked as taiko drumming is not for us (another story).
Day 6 and we leave the port early to visit the superb Kenrokuen in Kanazawa. Followed by an exploration of the Omichon markets where we had a delicious lunch. Afternoon was samurai village - no samurai then the geisha village - no geisha - still awesome. We were farewelled by a brilliant taiko drum performance.

4 days into our Japan expedition cruise on board ‘Heritage Adventurer’. Spent 3 days exploring Sapporo and loving the Ramen beforehand! Our cruise began in Otaru sailing next day for Hakodate - on island of Hokkaido. Onuma Park our 1st venture - lakes caused by now dormant Mt Kamagatake. Glorious in the sunshine. Nxt day arrived in Noshiro - travelled to Namahage Museum for performance of NewYear ritual in Japanese house. Fascinating slightly scary monsters visit houses to prepare them for the new year. Later we travelled to the UNESCO Heritage area of Juniko with its deep blue ponds and walked through the deep-green forest. Now on our way to the island of Sado.
