Servant of God Chiara Corbella Petrillo, the joyful young mother who died of cancer in 2012, will be one step closer next month to being declared a saint.
The Diocese of Rome announced that it will hold the closing session of the diocesan phase of her cause for beatification on Friday, June 21, at noon in the Archbasilica of St. John Lateran.

This past weekend marked the 40th anniversary of the international youth gathering held in Rome on Palm Sunday 1984, which led to the creation of World Youth Day by Pope John Paul II. 40 years ago, on April 14, 1984, Pope John Paul II met in Rome with 300,000 young people from all over the world who were hosted by some 6,000 Roman families, laying the foundations for what today is World Youth Day (WYD).
This weekend marked the 40th anniversary of the international youth gathering held in Rome on Palm Sunday 1984, which led to the creation of World Youth Day.
Our Journey of St Paul pilgrims are having a blessed time! They began in Athens and have been to Ancient Corinth, monastic Meteora, Philippi and Thessaloniki. Now they’re on their way to the Greek Island of Samos with their chaplain Fr Rembert Fernando MGL.
Rami and Bassam are our friends and speak to our pilgrims in the Holy Land. They are warriors for peace and we pray for them and for their families at this difficult time.
Pope Francis shares an embrace with an Israeli and a Palestinian, each of whom lost a daughter. As he said at the General Audience shortly afterward, the two men "look beyond the enmity of war" and are now friends.
"Let us appreciate this beautiful witness of these two people who have suffered the war in the Holy Land in the loss of their daughters," he said. "Thank you for your witness."
