I need this reminder often. When the days are long, hot and demanding. When the news is distressing and scary. When I feel helpless to change the suffering and brokenness. I remember this. I am not alone. God is still God, with us and for us. There is hope.

Christmas is for kids. And so tonight I am left with the tension between joyful celebration and painful contemplation. kellylatimoreicons image “Christ in the rubble” reminds me that many children continue to live in situations of devastation. Some make the headlines while others do not. But Jesus stands in solidarity with them all. Firstly, in his coming as a vulnerable child who became a refugee; and also still today through all who pray, give, serve and advocate for the “ least of these”. But this does not and must not cause me to suppress the delight and joy of children. I need their wonder, hope and celebration of life. My adult head and heart struggle with the tension. But entering in with the children in my world reminds me that I am called to both live hopefully and fight fiercely for all children, as Christ did and does. Christmas blessings to you all.
