THE WAIT IS OVER - THE HILLWOOD ROCK CLIMBING AREA HAS REOPENED 🧗

After being closed to the public for many years, the Hillwood Rock Climbing Area has officially reopened. This popular rock climbing site is arguably the best sport climbing crag in Tasmania, boasting over 150 routes of excellent quality and unrivalled accessibility. The highly featured rock is a change from the vertical dolerite found elsewhere around northern Tasmania, and the cliffs face all directions, making it climbable for most of the year.

The recent addition of rock climbing adds to the abundance of adventures, activities and experiences in the East Tamar Region, making it a must-see destination for locals and travellers alike.

Users of this newly opened area assume all risks and take full responsibility for their safety. To view the full conditions of entry, please visit https://wildtamar.com.au/climb-hillwood

With options for river or ocean kayaking, the multitude of calm coves, and rocky headlands, makes the George Town region a heaven for kayakers.

During the summer months, York Cove, Town Beach and East Beach offer waters calm enough for stand-up paddling boarding, whilst the windier days allow for kite and windsurfing along the more exposed stretches at Low Head and beyond.

Fetch your scuba gear and take a dive for an unforgettable underwater experience; you will never know what you might see like this short-tailed Nudibranch slug.

S L U G G E D

I really feel for the land based Slugs! The ocean going ones are so much prettier. I found this short tailed Nudibranch near the wreck of the Avon in George Town on the weekend and it was one of the biggest I have ever seen at about 12cm, and it was a fatty!

Short-tailed Nudibranch, (Cerotosoma brevacauditum), George Town, Tasmania.
