Yesterday at the MOH, we had a very full day.
We spent time with the team members as they explained their specific roles and the programs they are running. We had brain storming session for future projects.
Steve facilitated a session with the students on “Above and Below the Line” mindset.
We participated in a promo video, we delivered donated goods.
Then to top it all off, we had a beautiful dinner at Tommy & Judy’s home.
Another inspirational day.

When we travel to East Africa, we love spending time in Zanzibar, wondering the exotic streets of Stone Town.

Stone Town of Zanzibar, is a city of prominent historical and artistic importance in East Africa. It was built on the long tradition and exchange between the African interior and the lands of Arabia and Asia over 1000 years ago.

It remains a vibrant centre to this day and its architecture includes a fusion of many different elements and influences from Arabia, Persia, India, Europe and elsewhere.

Zanzibar played an important role in the slave trade, particularly during the 18th century when slaves were required for plantation development in the Indian Ocean Islands.

Much of Stone Town is more recent, however, dating from the second half of the 19th century, after the Sultan of Oman had moved his sultanate from Muscat to Zanzibar.
Zanzibar is a designated UNESCO World Heritage site.

The name "Stone Town" comes from the ubiquitous use of coral stone as the main construction material, this stone gives the town a characteristic, reddish warm colour.

The heart of Stone Town mostly consists of a maze of narrow alleys lined by houses, shops, bazaars and mosques. Since most streets are too narrow for cars, the town is crowded with bicycles and motorbikes.
A place to get completely lost in a different time where all your senses are activated with brilliant colours and aromas.

We have spent a lot of time in East Africa, particularly at the Mirror Of Hope. One of our favourite hand up programs is the Women Empowerment program.
The women are mentored and supported to start their own little business.
Last year, Tommy bought over some beautiful Xmas decorations, hand made by the women and we have only three left.
Nativity scene hand crafted and painted.
$20 each and all the money goes directly to the women. Anyone interested in buying one please DM me.

This is why we support the Mirror Of Hope. This inspirational young man, Dennis is a beacon of light that does not allow his circumstance of growing up in the slum to define him. He’s working towards a better future for himself, his family and community, supported by the MOH.

Mirror Of Hope doing a wonderful job, support the students living in Kibera during this very challenging time. 🙏

Yesterday Mirror of Hope launched the "Adopt a family in Kibera" campaign. With 4 reported cases of covid-19 in Kibera, we are doing the best we can to protect our students and the families we support from the devastating effects this pandemic could have. This campaign goes a notch higher than our previous food drive. The campaign aims at providing a "covid-19 family care package" to the families of our sponsored students for an initial period of 8 weeks at a cost of Ksh 1,500 per week(Apprx $15 a week and $120 for eight weeks). Local supporters can use our Mpesa paybill while international supporters can do so via Paypal on our website:https://www.paypal.com/donate/?token=w72CAa3KIkhMOk6OTkMo0f4oKvPW9vFUP5u1yr_7HR74C-RC6F7lja0F1HozCQJnXMb1yW&country.x=KE&locale.x=KE

We know this is possible and that is why we are asking once more if we can all join hands towards a life saving mission. We are asking groups such as peer groups, college students, our friends and our supporters etc, to use the poster below to help us raise funds for this initiative or to sign up to stand with a family in Kibera during this devastating period.
For more detail regarding the campaign including what you get in return for standing with a family kindly have a quick read below:

Jen and Babus Travel Adventures.

We love to look at life through a different lens.

We travel to places of cultural interest, that has history, community, connection and beautiful natural wonders. We spend a lot of our time in East Africa as we have fallen in love with people, their outlook on life and we love making a difference in the world.

We share our adventures, whether it is volunteering in East Africa or just heading off on a local adventure. The stories are personal, intimate, authentic and inspirational. We have found that travel, opens our eyes to different ideas, perspective and embrace all we meet with an open heart. We always return from our journeys very grateful and find that our outlook on life takes on a new meaning.

Being passionate about photography and helping others, we have a philosophy that where ever we go, we endeavour to make a difference and capture the true essence of a place through the lens of the camera, looking deep into the soul of our destination, creating long lasting memories.
