I think we can all agree that the Ubud Serenity ladies have had a fabulous week! Mostly strangers to start, there have been new friendships forged, old friends reunited and memories made sharing such an extraordinary experience together.
Perfect way to celebrate our final night, cocktails and dinner at the spectacular Bambu Indah Eco Resort, set in the jungle overlooking the Ayung River.
The Resort- Innovative architecture using bamboo and stone in harmony with nature, set amongst the lush, tropical jungle.
The Drinks- Imaginative cocktails served in a spectacular elevated space overlooking the river.

Day five began early with a blessing in the holy springs of the Tirta Empul Water Temple.
Wafting incense, chanting prayers and offerings of flowers and rice promised a spiritual experience ahead.
Dressed in bright green sarongs and guarded by wrathful creatures carved into stone, we stepped down into the crystal clear sacred water and dipped our heads under water spouts, each receiving a blessing of purification.
Feeling cleansed and relaxed we set off to explore the temple, finding a group of village elders collecting purified water for a traditional mass cremation ceremony.
Here, when people die, they are buried in the ground until enough people have died for a mass cremation. The bodies are dug up, prepared, then given an elaborate celebration in which they are all cremated, their ashes scattered into the river.
The ladies were super impressed with their daily classes at the Yoga Barn, a tropical oasis that offers over 20 classes daily plus a wellness centre, workshops, retreats and cafe serving healthy and delicious food. Balinese inspired studios set amongst lush tropical gardens, every class was an extraordinary experience. Two were particularly memorable:
The calm and compassionate Tina Nance, took them on a transformative mind-body journey in a Nervous System Rewire class. Tina has been teaching at the centre for many years and has built a strong following, engaging students with her wealth of knowledge and kindhearted presence.
The Rest and Restore pool session where warm water and music is used to facilitate deep relaxation and connectedness.
So great, from about day 4, to hear the girls start chatting about their plans for venturing out during the next ‘me time’ (free time) session on their own or in small groups.
And sharing their recommendations for facials and manicures, massages, clothes and jewelry boutiques, souvenir shops or where to find the best coffee!
After a few days of being in the group, they felt confident to go it alone, knowing where they were going and, importantly, how to get back to the hotel!
Dressed to impress, the evening began with curated cocktails at the Ambar Bar, in the spectacular and luxurious Mandapa Ritz-Carlton, overlooking the lush Sayan Valley.
The cocktails, inspired by nature, combined home-crafted spirits and mixers with locally grown plants and spices.
The problem, which one to choose, they were all so tempting…….

Next, an unforgettable culinary experience with more breathtaking views. Dinner at the stylish Indus Restaurant, a local favourite for over 26 years, serving exceptional, Asian-inspired cuisine.

Day four, getting out and amongst it with a relaxing morning walk in the countryside along a narrow track, passing through rice paddies, villages, art galleries and cafes.
Having ventured further than planned, enjoying wandering through galleries and enjoying stunning views, we were all keen to get back to the pool for a swim, a club sandwich and some ‘me time’.
Day three, move over Masterchef!
A highlight of any Ubud Serenity itinerary is a morning spent visiting a local village to learn the secrets to authentic Balinese cuisine.
After a guided visit to a produce market to learn about locally grown fruit, vegetables and spices, we were taken to a traditional Balinese family compound, rooms built around courtyards designed to house an extended family.
Here at the famous Paon Cooking School it is all about the base, a ‘Mother Sauce’ (yellow sauce or a peanut satay sauce) used with tofu, chicken, salads.
Kitted out in our chef aprons and under the expert guidance of our patient teacher, we pooled our talents to work together as a team. Cutting and grinding, smashing and stirring as we worked, chatting and laughing, to create an impressive selection of delicious dishes.
Once everything was cooked and plated up it was time to taste test our efforts.
On the menu today:
- chicken in coconut curry
- coconut and snake bean salad
- steamed tofu in banana leaves
- deep fried tempe in sweet soy sauce
- dessert of boiled banana in palm sugar syrup
The lunch, a team effort, was voted by everyone, as the best meal in Bali so far....
Magical evening at the Arma Museum Resort where traditional Balinese art, architecture and culture is showcased amidst tranquil tropical gardens.
After a delicious Thai dinner in the elegant open-air restaurant it was time to experience some Balinese culture. It was like stepping back in time 100 years
watching an exhilarating performance of the classic Kecak Dance, a ritual Balinese trance dance.
Day two, ridin’ along on my e-bike, honey!
Awesome morning riding out into the countryside on e-bikes, through the UNESCO World Heritage Tegalalang Rice Terraces, visiting local villages and temples.
Unforgettable experience to venture out into the villages and get a sense of everyday life for the Balinese.

Day one, the perfect formula to wind down and relax into Bali time.
Starting with a half day of pampering at nearby Tjampuhan Spa, the private, semi-open treatment rooms overlooking the lush river valley. A blissful full body massage, scrub and facial followed by a rejuvenating soak in the network of hot and cold spring water jacuzzi’s, set into a mystical cave grotto embellished with traditional Balinese carvings.
The wind down continued into the afternoon with a yoga class at the the Yoga Barn. A Somatic Yin Sound Immersion session lifting everyone to next level bliss and relaxation.
We’re officially on Bali time now!
