Just a short note to thank you personally for the management of our visit to CXI.
All of my group this year and previous years have stayed at the Villages before. They have also experienced other lodges in CXI.
This was my 6th visit and I would have to say it just keeps improving.
My guides as usual were exceptional.
I have fished with most of them before and they keep helping me to improve.
We are looking forward to returning in July 25 . Possibly for 2 weeks this time.
We will forward order- skinny water, bones and triggers.
I will forward photos as soon as I can.

End of week 7 and on we roll. 15 out and 12 in. Another week well lived. Bones and triggers were the main focus this past week. Challenging conditions with around 20 knots of wind most days. Those who handled the conditions the best got it done.
Moving off the springs and gradually heading into the neeps, some good shallow tailing bones are what this next week or so is all about, and of course triggers, the buggers are everywhere. Just gotta find a few dumb ones 🤦‍♂️😁

End of week 5 and it’s been another cracking week. 16 out in the morning and 14 in. The fishing has been awesome, world class to say the least 👍 Again , The Villages remains the premier lodge at CXI.

Week 3 is a wrap, a week well lived. 16 out and 14 new arrivals this morning so the fun continues. Apart from stacks of bones and triggers we did some bluewater as well once the wind settled a bit.

Last week amongst other guests I had the pleasure of hosting Scott Mitchell and here at The Villages. Not only did Katrina go bonefishing for a day for the first time, she caught 8 ,but Scott set a new lodge record landing 8 triggers in one day. That’s a lodge record as far as I’m aware. Congratulations to both of you and thanks again to you guys plus Nathan and Lisa for joining us here 🙏

So today is Kiribati independence day. Kiribati gained their independence in July 12th 1979. The island is in full celebration mode. So to everyone, especially all of the staff and guides here at The Villages, happy Independence Day,enjoy your special day my friends

So this happened the other day. Richard Woodman caught this trigger which had not only Richard’s fly in its mouth but also a white flexo from a previous bust off. Some of last weeks group were using white flexo’s . Didn’t stop it from feeding🤷‍♂️

Beiata is a great example of dillegence, passion and wanting to be his best. About 6 months ago he was promoted to head guide by way of the guides MVP , a position he takes seriously and one he shares with Ekiti. He hunts 👀

Let me introduce you to Karerea or as we call him “ Junior “ His father was Timwaio, sadly passed a few years back ,but was such a good guide, in fact one of the best. Junior is so much like his dad, the coolness, a bit of swagger, confidence. For me it’s been great to fish with 2nd generation guides at The Villages. I chatted to Junior last year about his dad and he said “ I just want to be as good a guide as he was”
Let me tell you now he is well and truly on his way to being just that, and could possibly in time be better if that’s even possible

And of course we have Menty Kirimento Aiete. Super experienced guide, highly active and loves to hunt GT’s. Another outstanding Villages guide and one you’ll enjoy having has company on the flats 👍

And of course there is Eketi. How do you describe this guy? Legend comes to mind and I don’t use that word lightly.Definitely a 1% ‘er in every sense of the word. He knows all there is to know about the where’s and when’s. Plus he sings beautifully!!
I’ve known and fished with Eketi for over 15 yr. Never ceases to impress 🤙

Talking of guides, there is one guy you should definitely spend a day on the flats with and that’s Totene. Plus he is tall so can see the fish a long way 😁 A day with Totene is a day spent with one of the best in the business ☝️

Part of what I do when I’m at The Villages is to help in the selection process and training of young men aspiring to be guides. Over the years some have developed into outstanding guides that we are very proud to have. Last year one of these trainees was Ioio. I received this message from him recently and a few pics. Stoked 🙏

“Hi there bro! we eagerly to meeting you and your clients. I'd like to extend my gratitude to you for training us on flying fishing. I achieve so much skills from your training and here's some of my high light of fishing..”

If I can pass on any advice to those heading to CXI soon “ don’t overthink it”. For bones I usually lob up with about 6 maybe 8 patterns and vary the size and weight to cover various situations. Fly rejections are not always about the bones not liking the fly. Before changing, think about presentation and the way you work that fly. TIP- bones don’t like their food sneaking up from behind ,or swimming against tide or current. Take a minute to suss out the situation first before pulling the trigger, especially on those bigger fish. Normally all you get is one shot, maybe 2 at best. The bigger fish aren’t necessarily easy, but that’s fine by me.
I’ve always said that if the bones don’t like what and how I’m trying to feed them, it’s time to head back to the Villages early and drink beer. 🍺
BTW , over 18 yrs.I’m still thirsty on that count😉

TK is one of the best guides on the island, I’m talking the 1% club, this guy is a legend! He’s been with us at The Villages for many many years.In fact all of our guides are at the top of their game .
This morning he sends me this with the caption “ Brother, the GT are waiting for your fisherman “
I’m 1 month from heading in for the season- sleep won’t come easy now 🤣

This season 2024 from my part of the world is fully booked, 10 weeks solid starting July 3rd. With anglers coming in from Australia, New Zealand and Singapore it’s great to be able to host not only some good friends again but to be able to meet a bunch of new ones. So with the books closed for this year I’m already taking bookings for 2025. If it turns out to be like this year then get in sooner rather than later😉
