Welcome to another Flightie Friday ✈️

Today Global Product Designer Rachel is sharing the details of her family trip to Bali.

🌴 What were the highlights of your trip?

This was our first international trip as an extended family of 6 (kids were 7 & 2 at the time) + my adult stepson and his partner. I was also 25 weeks pregnant so it was an adventure to say the least! Some of the main highlights were hiring a driver for the day & handing him my itinerary for Ubud, exploring East Bali, visiting the Gates of Heaven Lempuyang Temple and Tirta Gangga, and staying at the Alila Uluwatu!

🌴 If you were to go back what else would you do?

We are going back again this year! We will spend more time in East Bali and see the spots we missed (Sideman, Virgin Beach, Water Palace Taman Ujung). I am also going to book us out to Nusa Lembongan for the day and stay a couple nights Nusa Dua this time as well.

🌴 Any tips for first-time travellers to this destination?

Bali is not a western country - stay out of trouble! Avoid comparing beaches and food and service to places you've been before, Bali has something for everyone - find what that is for you! Take sunblock with you - it's expensive in Bali! Travelling with kids - Don't let them pat the stray dogs (they're everywhere!) Pregnant and travelling? Ginger gummy bears are a lifesaver for nausea. If you find a driver with ice cold aircon - get their number and book them in as your driver for the week! Don't risk eating street food and ask for food well cooked. And book in that pregnancy massage!

Australia could be about to get a new low-cost airline! ✈️

Introducing Koala Airlines – a new carrier that is hoping to hit the skies offering budget domestic flights to Aussie travellers.

The Melbourne-based company recently launched its website, revealing its logo and offering a sneak peek at a potential fleet of Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft.

While it may seem like Koala has appeared out of thin air, but it actually has deep roots stretching back 50 years. Originally operating as Desert Air Safaris, the company began as a tour and charter service before rebranding following its acquisition in 2019.

As of now, there’s no confirmed start date for Koala’s flights, as the airline is still navigating the regulatory approval process.

The Nintendo Museum in Kyoto, Japan will officially open its doors from 02 October 2024!

Hiking along the roads connecting Cape Town and Magadan at the far edges of the world's largest landmass would make for some epic travel stories.

There wouldn't be 5-star hotels at every stop along this route, and some parts mightn't be the safest places to wander, but it's ok to dream, right?

We have been advised that aircraft refuelers working for Ampol at Sydney Airport will stop work tomorrow, Friday 23 August, as part of ongoing industrial action.

While airlines are working closely with Ampol to minimise flight disruptions, travellers departing from Sydney Airport on Friday with the carriers that Ampol services are being warned that delays or cancellations may occur. The airline carriers serviced by Ampol include Qantas, Virgin, Jetstar, Air New Zealand, Delta and British Airways.

We suggest customers arrive earlier than planned to allow extra time as regular services may be disrupted. You can also check on the current status of your flight on official airline or airport websites.

Today our Content Executive Sarah is sharing the details of her week-long journey to Labuan Bajo, only an hour plane ride away from Bali with and .

⛵️ What were the highlights of your trip?

This trip was my first time visiting Labuan Bajo, and it exceeded all my expectations! Living on a Phinisi boat and island hopping to all the key attractions was definitely the main highlight. While living on board we snorkelled Kelor and Manjarite Island, watched thousands of bats at sunset flying above from Kalong Island, caught the sunrise atop Padar Island, visited Pink Beach and spotted 10 of the world’s largest living lizards at Komodo National Park! Visiting Melo Village and watching the traditional Manggarai dance, Caci, was also an unforgettable experience, followed by a delicious lunch at Dapur Tara!

🌊 If you were to go back what else would you do?

When I go back to Labuan Bajo, I would love to check out it’s many incredible dive sites! Labuan Bajo is known for its world class dive sites, including Manta Point and Batu Bolong, where you can spot vibrant reefs, manta rays, and whale sharks.

🇮🇩 Any tips for first-time travellers to this destination?

100% opt for the live on-board experience! There are so many incredible sites to see in Labuan Bajo, don’t rush it trying to see them all on a day tour. The boat we lived onboard was incredibly comfortable, and there are so many luxe and budget friendly options for all kinds of travellers.
