Silver to Sea Way The Silver to Sea Way is a community-led, regional economic revitalisation initiative.

Traversing some 415km, the Silver to Sea Way is a new heritage tourism route that follows one of the most historically significant transport routes in Australia as it winds its way from Silverton in New South Wales to Port Pirie in South Australia. At its peak, this railway line was the busiest in the world, with over 100 train movements a day transporting ore from the mines to the port! By invest

ing in the regeneration of heritage places and the development of several exciting digital visitor experiences, the Silver to Sea Way will benefit the region for generations to come.

As part of the Silver to Sea Way project, we've held storycapturing workshops throughout the region.

These workshops have all been a great success! We've heard and captured many fascinating stories, ranging from tales of early settlement to railway anecdotes and memories of more recent events.

Have you been to the Steamtown Heritage Rail Centre lately❓

Located at Steamtown, the Peterborough Roundhouse has long been an important part of the South Australian railway system. In addition to many fascinating stories, the Roundhouse is also home to a series of successful regeneration works, which were completed earlier this year as part of the Silver to Sea Way project.

Recently, Gladstone resident Steve Schultz tracked down two postcards, sent from the Gladstone Post Office in 1891 and 1893.

Have a read of this great article to learn more!

A historian says postcards sent from his town more than a century ago are among the treasures he has managed to track down in his history club's push to establish a museum.

One highlight of the recent community workshops was being able to hear all the fantastic stories that participants felt showcased the very best of the region 💯

For instance, in Jamestown, we heard quite a bit about the Jamestown Show - and, thanks to local NT Branch members, we have this great picture of the 125th Show to share 📸

We especially love the large pair of shears (made from plasticine, tape, and pipe cleaners), as well as all the wool (crumpled paper) 🐑

This week, we're out and about in the region speaking to communities about the stories and experiences that the Silver to Sea Way could offer.

Many thanks to those who have already spoken with us, in Gladstone, Jamestown (pictured), and Peterborough. It's been great to hear all of your fantastic ideas!

We're looking forward to our Port Pirie session tomorrow.
