Only a half hrs drive from Lake Tabourie & 7 kms or so from the epi centre of the origins of the Currowan blaze, it was surrounded, survived and is fighting back with abundance.

Thank you to all our operators for keeping visitor safety paramount since NSW RFS announced the Tourist Leave Zone last Friday, January 3. Since then, we know many of you have been waiting for information about when it is safe to welcome back visitors.

The RFS and the Emergency Operations Centre are working hard to determine the appropriate message to convey to visitors/tourists given the fact that there is still active fire in the region. They understand the impact this is having on businesses.

At this time, the advice to those wanting to visit the Shoalhaven is to seek advice from the RFS Bushfire Information Line on 1800 679 737 before travelling. Our understanding is that more information will be coming from the RFS soon, stay tuned.

Long shot but weather systems travel from west Australia to the east. There is the beginnings of wet season rain developing in the Kimberley W.A.

Light N.E winds producing clear skies.
Thankfully the predicted Wicked westerly wind has not eventuated. It will be great if we all can have pressure free day off.

Tabourie is safe again.
The fires came close but luckily the village escaped its voracious appetite. The fire was fuelled by a high speed 30kt wind, bending over trees and headed straight toward us. Thanks to a last minute change in wind direction, the fire was steered away from our village and clipped 2 outlaying sheds destroying their contents. Luckily no one was hurt.

Lightning doesn't strike twice and we now have got the largest surrounding burnt off area to protect us from future fires. This of course until the next grossly overloaded forest floor fuel load occurs because of continual accumulation of forest litter.

Please help pressure our leaders to implement strategies to prevent such an event occurring again. We need to manage our forests better.
