When involved in the cycling industry it is easy to forget that the whole concept of cycle touring and/or ebiking is new to some. With this in mind I have put together an introductory day designed to introduce ebiking to those considering ebiking who would like to know a little more about this flourishing activity. The growth in cycle tourism, cycle trails and the creation of rail trails around Australia has seen people turn to cycling in droves. Cycling is a great way to meet people or head off with a group of friends and share some special moments in an active social way.

I’m running the day in the Megalong Valley in the Blue Mountains so it is easy for Sydney folk to attend and the Megalong is also just a great place to cycle through with a good mix of paved and unpaved roads, a few hills … and of course a great coffee shop.

This introductory day is not highly technical or full of jargon but rather is designed to give you an opportunity to head off on a quality ebike along a fairly quite country road to get a feel for, and experience of, ebiking. I’ll be there to set you up on the bike and provide full support during the day and we will stop for lunch.
I’m running it over two separate days, Saturday 6th of April and Sunday 7th of April with a small group size each day so I can give each cyclist some time to discuss cycle touring generally and ebiking more specifically.

This is an exceptionally well priced day at just $60 which includes ebike hire and lunch and I have put it together at a great introductory price simply to motivate anyone who has considered ebiking to come and give it a try.

Its autumn and time to pull out the bike and head for the trail. When I think cycling and the Central West Cycle Trail Sue and Geoff Raine of Mayfield Station are never far from my thoughts. Can't wait for a bit of country hospitality and a yarn next time I'm passing through.

I'm currently in Indonesia on other business but took the oppurtunity to head over to one of the Gili Islands, Gili Trawangan just off the coast of Lombok. Well, what a bicycle island this is! Actually it is the only form of transport, no cars, no motorbikes, just bicycles!! There are plenty of horse drawn carts but they don't make too much noise so the whole island has a low noise feel and it is great to ride around on a bike when all there is are bikes. Unfortunately the horses do leave a certain odour with urine and droppings but the nose adjusts this fairly quickly. It is about a 10 k trip around the island so an easy ride to go one way and return making it around a20k cycle with cafes dotted all the way. Bike hire is $5 AUD for the day so it is a great way to get around. There are no ebikes that I have seen but it is very flat so a dream cycle anyway.

What a great ride out to Gunguddy and then magical paddle. As one of the participants mentioned, 'it's greater than the sum of the two parts'. I'm looking forward to doing it all again next full moon.

There is still a bit of work in the trailer fit out but at least it is ready to go for tonight's Full Moon Pedal and Paddle . This one is full but there is another next full moon. First cycle trip with the new vehicle and trailer!

Sneak Peek at my Lachlan Valley Cycle Trail tour. The page is not coded into my website but it is live and thought I'd give my FB followers a bit of a sneak peek. After almost completing the first draft which included Cowra and Canowindra a couple of insurmountable logistics issues meant I had to almost totally rewrite it and now includes the inland towns of Trundle and Peak Hill. I'm looking forward to this new tour!

I decided to do a recci around the Lachlan Valley Cycle Trail over the Christmas period and have to say it exceeded my expectations. This is a great cycle route with a great mix of rural landscapes and rural towns. There is a bit of an accommodation issue in the Eugowra but there is a work around by getting a transfer to Forbes. Love this part of the world and will be back!
