We talked about Wayo Africa’s Little Green Camp a few months back. Well, it's time to meet the older brother.
The Serengeti Green Camp features similar tents with mesh sides, all sewn by local teams on the boundary of Arusha National Park. This open feeling allows you to experience the senses of the bush, without experiencing any unwelcome visitors. With the stretch canvas overhead, tents sensitively blend into the landscape while providing shade and privacy.
But more importantly, the guest experience is focused on immersing guests in the feeling of being in the wilds of the parks and appreciating the local craftsmanship. Interiors have been carefully sourced with the help of anthropologists and designers, celebrating cultural groups and encouraging the development of local craftsmanship. For example, bed panels are made from banana leaves in Mto Wa
Mbu (local to the activity center) and there are Maasai belted cushions, Chaga cup chandeliers, and countless other celebrations.
The location has been chosen to be set away from the busy tourism hotspots and the large numbers of vehicles that are seen at The Mara River or Ndutu Woodlands. This camp is a 1.5-hour game drive to these areas so you enjoy these spaces during the day if wanted and then escape to more remote corners of the Serengeti in the evenings. However, Wayo Serengeti Green Camp primarily offers a taster of walking safaris. As you unpick the small details of this ecosystem during the day and then breathe it in at night, the whole trip almost becomes a meditation on nature.
A look at the wonderful Matetsi in Victoria Falls. A great option when you can't choose between another safari or the falls. Why not both?
Incredible footage of a rocky start for these emperor penguin chicks
Who said penguins don’t want to fly?
Easily one of the most beautiful bookstores in the world, El Ateneo in Buenos Aires has a rich history. First a theatre with famed performers gracing its stage, then a renowned movie theatre and now as a bookshop, after its closure in 1999. This new incarnation seems to work, with a cafe on the stage and places to read in the opera boxes.
And to think, it almost became a parking lot before it was saved!
Pure strength. Imagine climbing a tree whilst carrying something your own body weight. Incredible.
Thanks to the team at Mala Mala for sharing.
Amazing. Africa never ceases to surprise.

Incredible Aerial Rescue in Tsavo, Kenya
Check out this incredible rescue, courtesy of the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. Their amazing aerial unit, used to monitoring animal welfare and preventing poaching, recieved word there was a tanker caught in rapidly rising floodwaters. And so, two brothers, pilot Taru Carr-Hartley and brother Roan went straight to the scene and made an incredible rescue.
Another amazing reason to donate to this cause.

A lovely video about Xigera, who we focused on last week. If you think Africa is all camping and roughing it, this one might come as a shock.
We offer a lot of unique experiences at The Explorer Society, but we don't have this one just yet.

This is Bondeni. Like all toddlers, he likes causing trouble. Also, like most toddlers, he sometimes has problems with gravity.
Just like yesterday’s photo, this is just another example of happy little elephants escaping their rough beginnings on the way to a better life, all courtesy of Sheldrick Wildlife Trust.
