It's just been 23 months since I moved to Australia!

And while I love this country and its people… boy, was it a major shift to what I had grown accustomed to in my Motherland of Zimbabwe!

There I was, a stranger in a foreign land.

A new city.

A different English dialect to the British one we speak back home.

An unknown way of life.

I was like a toddler learning how to walk and talk all over again.

For example,we didn't have a car to go from Point A to Point B and had to rely on the Uber.

So, this Zimbabwean family, who had never been on a tram or used public transport that stuck to a timetable had to navigate an entire city on buses and trains using google maps to know where to drop off.

I'm not ashamed to admit it was a little scary at times but luckily the people I would ask for information were always willing to assist.

It took me a couple of times to pronounce words such as;

1. Kata Tjuta (kah-tah choor-ta)
2. Oodnadatta (OOd-nu-dada)
3. Coolangatta (KOOl-ang-atta)
4. Ubirr (O-beer-ee)
5. Yatala (Yat-lah)

I still get some wrong if I try to pronounce them the way I would given my place of origin...
